Hollywood has joined the war. Universal Pictures announced yesterday that it is to make The Battle for Falluja. To prove it is serious, it has enlisted Indiana Jones himself, actor Harrison Ford, to help defeat the insurgency.

The film promises to depict the story from the point of view of US soldiers and politicians; it seems unlikely that the plight of the Iraqis will figure too prominently in Hollywood's take on the subject.

Oh well gee, colour me suprised

Good news for Hollywood! If the insurgency keeps up, instant sequel material.

I actually am surprised Hollywood would take a more 'hawkish' approach to the material. But who knows what this movie will grow into...

First tragedy, then farce.

the liberal hollywood hollywood thing is a bit of a misnomer. There are extremely leftists people in Hollywood, and they are generally the most vocal and most numerousl... but there are several prominent stars that are on the other end of the spectrum (Billy Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Mad Max)..

However, the biggest problem is.. most people in Hollywood are retards. Highschool dropouts that have the ability to pretend to be someone else.. and everyone magically assumes that since they play smart people they must be smart people. Dont get me wrong, there are smart people in the film industry.. but most of them are behind the camera, not in front of it.

It's really a matter of economics rather than personal viewpoints. The average American filmgoer will be most pleased to see a movie with American soldiers blowing up 'freedom hating terrorists' in a modern day context they can relate to. It is a route to sure-fire box-office success, regardless of how tasteless and inappropriate this shit will turn out to be.

Wouldn't it make a little more sense for some time to elapse. You know...so we know how the movie actually ENDS?

No need. Here we have the makings of a US centric movie blatantly trying to profit from current events, events which remain a very raw issue for many people. And when you combine that with comments such as these "If America needs a hard job done, the marines will do it, and they won't lose their humanity in the process or any sleep over pulling the trigger" from the guy writing the book of which the movie is based, the outlook doesn't look too encouraging.

Harrison Ford isn't a Republican. Indeed, it's not hard to find articles in which he criticises the Bush administration's foreign policy. Odd that he would star in such a film.

The President: How dare you come in here and lecture me!
Jack Ryan: How dare *you*, sir!
The President: How dare you come into this office and bark at me like some little junkyard dog? I am the President of the United States!

There really is little hope for humanity.
Women and children are still dying in Falluja. You know, being blown to pieces as freshly 'liberated' Iraq tears itself apart.
News like this makes me actually cry with despair.

This movie could still be really good. Sometimes people can leave politics at the door and just make a good movie. You have to admit though, with all the current events surrounding Falluja and the stance on it from politicians, if nothing else, it makes for good drama. All you need is a loose plot to tie up the action and you have a million dollar hit. Black Hawk Down is essentially nothing but one huge battle sequence with heavier fighting tossed in all throughout and that movie, imo, was great. This can be the same.

Black Hawk Down was visually amazing but the politics were repulsive, methinks.

Ridley Scott is making his new movie which deals with the Crusades - supposed to be a love letter to Islam.

Kurt Russel is a big-time conservative IIRC..
Are you sure? He lives in Vancouver. Doesn't seem like something a conservative would do (move to a liberal Canadian city).
