"Harry Potter Quidditch Champions" announced!

Would rather this be DLC for Hogwarts tbh.

The design looks way more cartoony the Hogwarts, i guess this is on purpose to differentiate from Hogwarts.

Honestly I don't think this is the reason Hogwarts didn't have Quidditch. Alright, maybe it played some part in it but I don't think it's the entire reason. I think Avalanche cut off more than they could chew and didn't have the time or even skill to do a proper Quidditch mini game. As far as mini games go it seems the best they could do is that Accio Ball thing. For goodness sake we didn't even get a Gobstones mini game! People need to remember that they went from making rather low quality movie spin off games to a huge open world RPG game.

You could argue well they already have flying in it and the quidditch stadium is there. True but again it would still be a lot of work to have a proper Quidditch game. At most we see 2-3 people on a broom at a time in the game. Maybe getting 14 people flying around (think of the player AI too) at the same with a huge crowd of students was too much for the engine and their skill. It could also be that they couldn't fit the time for Quidditch matches into the game. I mean they do have issues with pacing in the game so it's not a strong point. I think they did try to get Quidditch in but it was scrapped due to not enough time/skill and they went to adjust the dialogue of some characters to explain it ingame.

Why does every multiplayer game have to have the same cartoon style now?
Fortnite is one of the biggest games ever and it has that cartoon style.

It's almost as if graphics don't matter in online multiplayer esport games. I don't know if they plan on making this an esport game but for all we know it could be. If the gameplay is fun then the graphics don't matter at all.

That generic, low effort art style...

But the kids love it

Quidditch World Cup came out <2 months after the PS2 version of Philsopher's Stone which didn't have any Quidditch (except story related events).

It's not going to be Hogwarts Legacy DLC.
Seems obvious that its not DLC. I still think it should be though. In my view the audience treated them very well, and deserves to have this type of mode added out of mutual appreciation.

The game itself is nonsense from a design perspective because the seeker renders the other positions pointless. Evenly matched teams wouldn't result in a 16 goal lead in a competitive setting like the match in the video. You would expect evenly matched teams to be within 15 goals which means the winner will always be the team who gets the snitch. A player playing the seeker has nothing to do until the snitch appears which would't be much fun either. The snitch works in the books because Quidditch is a plot device designed to give Harry Potter the limelight. It would be awful to play as a competitive game if you don't get to be the seeker.
Couldn't the same thing be said about every other sports when the player doesn't have the ball? Not like they're on the the sidelines banging the cheerleaders or female fans.

Considering this seems ftp and probably they're looking for a competitive multiplayer experience (like Rocket League or something like that), to me make perfect sense to not beeing a DLC for Hogwarts Legacy.

Would be like hoping for Mario Strikers beeing an update for Super Mario Odyssey.

The snitch and seeker is equivalent to a basketball game being decided by two baseball players trying to hit a target with a home run. Rowling wrote the seeker as a way to establish Harry as a skilled wizard despite coming from non-magical society. Quidditch works as a narrative device and not much else. Krum, best seeker in the world, caught the snitch during the world cup and cost his team the game. It's not a logical sport.

I don't even know anybody who likes Harry Potter. Not one of my friends or family members or anyone I know likes it. Yet, it's extremely popular.

I think it must be an age thing because I don't know many people under 30. That's probably what it is I'm guessing.
I doubt it's a age thing. The first Harry Potter book came out back in 1997, so if you were 12 when it came out you would be 38 now. I'm in my 30s and I grew up with the books.

basic styles accommodate basic hardware. Think about it your player base will be larger if the game isn't going to require top of the line hardware while at the same time not looking like dog shit.

A game designed with highly details assets looks shit if toned down to low.
A game designed with easy to render assets looks decent if tones down to low.
