Has anyone played the PS2 remakes of Bonk and Adventure Island?

Are they worth $20-$25?

Adventure Island is one of the first NES games I can remember thanks to that initial free issue of Gamepro that was handed out at stores.

Haha I remember I got that at TRU when I was getting some NES game. I remember it had Ikari Warriors on the cover or something even. It's too bad these games suck, but they looked kinda shitty from the beginning when the first screens were posted.

i'm quite fond of the bonk remake. it lacks a little bit of polish, but interestingly it stops being a remake after the first few levels and starts using original level designs. the bosses are way unbalanced, but the game as a whole is quite fun. thumbs up.

I picked up Bonk on the Gamecube. It's very charming in its simplicity, and Bonk himself is the coolest platform game character ever - I wish I could climb rocks with my teeth! It's not a great game overall though, it's best picked up for nostalgia appeal.

That actually sounds pretty fun. New Bonk levels...mmmm :) Plus it's already re-released at the 1700yen or less price point, sounds like a solid purchase.

yeah it's totally worth it at that price. if you like bonk, it's a no-brainer.

Bonk's biggest problem is the lack of the turbo slider that the TG16/PCE controller had. It's probably just my own over-reliance on it to begin with, but the boxer and twin-ninja-dino bosses without it, as ferricide said, are 20x harder than they were in the original. Other than that it's a pretty slick remake, barring some strange texture work in places.

Adventure Island feels the most solidly produced, looks the best of all 4, and plays exactly like the original. If you dig the game at all it's definitely worth the low cost.

Cubic Lode Runner is still my favorite of the 4, and like Bobby said is one of the most ignored, if not outright maligned (ima lookin' at you, toastyfrog) of the series.

Star Soldier is the last one I have yet to buy, mostly because I can't explode watermelons with my hummingbird-like index finger, so I don't feel like I'll get as much out of it.

All of'm have cool unlockables, too. Play-Asia's got all but Star Soldier for the $20-25 in both regular and Za Besto flavors, and I wouldn't stop anyone considering picking them up for that, especially if they've got even just an ounce of love in their heart for Hudson.

meh, i totally hate adventure island's graphical style. it looks like a saturn-era FMV opening. it's bizarre and ugly.

They're all a little bizarre and ugly (though less so than your average Sega-ageS title), but AI's design is consistent at least.

I only really liked the first Adventure Island. Didn't like the sequels or SNES ones much.

Probably going to pick up that and Bonk soon.
