I ask because first love football, FCK, and now from a PC game they're making called Mage knight as you see from these screens:

http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=31694&mode=thread&order=0

Now either thier putting the big resources into other stuff or they're just starting to go downhill when when it comes producing excellent game visuals. If anything, it would be sad to see a developer who is know for turning out good visuals start on a path down.

Namco Japan has nothing to do with Mage Knight - it's by Taiwanese developer InterServ, working contract for Namco Hometek.

edit: not intended as a diss to InterServ, as there's only so much you can do with Mage Knight art design.

I don't think so, I guess they're just going through one of those strange phases, they'll be back eventually... I think.

By the way, this if a bit off topic but does anyone know why I can't make new threads? Maybe 'cause I'm a noob or something?

This is Sony's doing to make their PS3 efforts look *that* much better than what's out there.

I just made that up actually. You'll believe anything.

It does. But you're fooling yourself if you think it can't be done on the XBOX1.

Speaking of RR6, these are the thoughts I have while playing:

- No way this'll remain exclusive to 360
- This is the 1st EVA online Ridge Racer
- If this were on a Sony console, it would get the props it deserves
- If I were attracted to men, I'd kiss the track designers.

and yes, jr. members can't make posts

Thanks

Just wondering. I take for granted they'll release a ridge racer alongside the PS3. But what do you think, will it be a 6+ version or a completely new entry in the series? I read somewhere the xbox360 didn't do that well, so I kind of expect an improved version of it.

if anything, it would be just sad to see namco fall grace totally. Like I said however, it would be sad to see someone like them who have been one of the most technical developers(this is considering they've always pushed graphics leaps) fall back.

QF motherfucking T.

I would understand if it was the first of it's type, but RR PSP plays very similar, less refined, and got splooged all over, so the "omfg dusnt even feel liek carz!" shit isn't gonna fly.

Once again, this man speaks the fucking truth.

RR >>>>> Your face

The products being pointed out as examples of Namco's "downfall" are all being created by teams within Namco that were not generally known for producing amazing visuals.

Soul Calibur 3 was fairly recent and was quite a sight. I'd say it features some of the most beautiful stages ever to grace a fighter. Ace Combat Zero is once again an impressive looking title as well.

I think we need to wait for teams like that to jump onto the next generation machines before making such judgements.

They have an action game, RPG and a sports game in development for PS3. Ridge Racer 6 is X360 exclusive.

i know lots of ppl (including me) love to poke fun at namco's next gen efforts but lets be fair; they have released one next gen game so far (rr6 ) and that game looks slick as hell. Since FCK is going under a major revision and Love Football is a game nobody would really care even if it did look like gears of war, i don't think there is any real big problem worth mentioning with next gen namco.

the more i played RR, the better looking i thought it was. I prefered the look of Ridge to PGR3 for some reason, yet people originally saying "looks like an Xbox game" :/

Granted , it's not face smashingly next gen, but it's pretty lush. And the airport track is very sexy indeed.

I read that the other day. But it's just too weird RR's not there, aren't all Playstation consoles supposed to be launched with a Ridge Racer game?? Where's the tradition?? I know it's stupid but for me it'd be strange if RR's not there on day one.

The funny thing is, I didn't really like RR that much. That is, until I played the great PSP version. Not incredible but pretty slick, fast and very arcadey. I kinda miss having more arcade racing games for my PS2, I'm fed up of simulators such as GT, Enthusia (which graphics aside is pretty crappy anyway) and whatever. If you think about it there are not that many games of that type available, considering the huge amount of games released for the system.

I think Microsoft paid some $$$ to Namco to get some exclusive games. MS got Ridge Racer, FCK, Love Football and unknown RPG.

Ridge Racer is dead anyway...

Dude, let's not get in an arguement about what is Namco's best title this generation (though Reilly is correct). The point is, Katamari does not push the PS2 to its limits and was loved by just about everyone. Maybe Namco is working on more titles that excell because of great gameplay rather than pretty pictures. Who knows?

And who the heck mentions Ace Combat as their best title? Is that the one with the blue box? I got that with my system (used from a friend), owned it for a few years, and eventually traded it in without ever playing it. Just about everyone loves Katamari. Who cares about another flying game in the industry's older genre?

For what it set out to do Katamari Damacy looks very nice.

Some Japanese gaffers say that Katamari PSP looks great! Even better than the PS2 version and is one of the best looking PSP games...

:lol That makes a lot of sense.

Maybe I just value innovation more than you do. I would rather play something I've never experienced than another flying game. Though I like flying games (though 2D ones are still the best) they're a dime a dozen. I'm sure if Namco could show one title this generation that symbolizes who they are and the direction they're going they would not choose Ace Combat.

....

I'd rather play Ikaruga or Gradius V than Ace Combat or Star Fox...

EDIT - Why is everyone ignoring my point that great graphics aren't important? How did this turn into an argument about Ace Combat?

Its true that great graphics don't make a game, cause some of the games out there with the best visuals crap and Katamari proved you don't need high-end visual to have a enjoyable title.

The thing is however, things like like this make you wonder if say namco is taking a different direction e.g. less focus on the technical part of thier games.

I asked this question myself after StarFox Assault ;)
After playing that, I also asked myself if Namco lost their edge in making a halfway decent game that's fun. I then realized that they just f*cked up the game really badly.

Lot of people are saying that a PS3 version has been in the works since last year, and that it'll naturally look better than the X360 version thanks to the increased dev period.

As for the topic at hand, Soul Calibur 3 disagrees.

Shut the fuck up prine.

So you haven't even played Ace Combat and you think 2d games are better? Sorry but your opinion is worthless...

They've lost thier edge altogether.

What a horrible generation for them
Hey Prine, limit your blatherings to things you're qualified to talk about. Like bangers and mash.

Wow, I thought most people preferred 2D shooters. Aren't Gradius V and Ikaruga widely considered the best games in the genre this generation?

Dude the gameplay is totally different. How can anyone compare Ace Combat with Gradius??? People prefer 3d gameplay. That's why Ace Combat IV sold 1.5 million copies in NA and god knows how many in the other regions!!! While gradius and ikaruga probably bombed...

Your first mistake is suggesting that something like Gradius V is even in the same genre. They may both involve flying and shooting, but that's where the similarities end. The games are COMPLETELY different and it is entirely possible that a person who enjoys one genre (shooters) may not enjoy the other (flight sim - simplified in the case of AC).

I certainly prefer shooters to something like Ace Combat, but it should be obvious by sales numbers that such an opinion is far from the norm.

well if the screenshots on the 3 below say anything, its the fact Namco is putting thier money into. These screens I'm talking:
