Has the PSP been worth it so far?

No one cares about your opinion of PSP or its games, marc. Trust me.
Whatever. Despite my pet grieve with controls on some games, my opinion on the PSP is that it is of course worth it. Games that play well on it, such as the holy Hot Shots Golf mentioned in this thread, racing games (Wipeout is a marvel) or puzzle games do wonders on this machine. And it is the most versatile device I've ever owned. Example: I took this week pictures of my just born daughter on my T9 camera, took the MS and showed a diaporama on my PSP to my family, with a great wow factor. I watch the daily show and south park episodes on my way to work and read GAF in my bed when my wife is asleep. You can't go wrong with it if you know what to expect.

I don't own one, so I'm not privvy to say but I'm still of the opinion that PSP will only hit its stride once next gen is on its way and direct console conversions become impossible. Then we'll see some real originality for the system

Nope, haven't played it heavily since April. Haven't booted it up in about 2 months.
Same here. I loved the thing at launch. Wipeout and Lumines ftw. After that I just haven't found a single title to interest me. GTA did but by the time I was about to pick it up it got annouced for PS2 so I can wait.

I'll play my PSP if Lumines II comes or if Square-Enix releases a REAL game, which I doubt they will. They seem to like to focus on one system and give the leftovers to the other. (PS2, barely anything to GCN) (DS, barely anything to PSP)

Absolutely. Gripshift, Lumines, DJ Portable MAX, Wipeout Pure, GTALCS, Tales of Eternia and Exit are some really great games.

Maverick Hunter X, SOCOM FTB, Daxter and Syphon Filter will also be mine, PSP's a great system and it's got a very good future line-up, imo.

Still not really. I rarely use the media functions, although I am going to try and start taking advantage of them from now on....

As far as games, I have been dissapointed overall. So far I have enjoyed Exit, and Guilty Gear. I just picked up MGA2 but haven't put any time into it yet. Looking to pick up the Suikoden I&II collection soon too. That and VP: Lenneth should have me enjoying it over the next few months, but I still see myself putting more time into the DS...

Yes. I would have gotten one just for Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee and felt it was "worth it." Despite owning only three games (Hot Shots, Lumines, Ridge Racer), I've gotten probably 200 hours worth of game time out of it (100+ with Hot Shots). I enjoyed Ridge Racer, oddly enough, even if it is guilty of two racing game cardinal sins: fill a performance enhancing meter by means of non-racing, and extreme corner assist. The feeling of accomplishment when winning a race is zero, but the game's fun.

I haven't touched my PSP since August. Few games have come out since Hot Shots that interest me enough to justify a $40-50 price. Many of the games stay close to MSRP for a long time, too. Wipeout Pure and Metal Gear Acid being prime examples.

I'm just really budget conscious when it comes to games. The vast majority of games I buy are $15 or less.

I'll be getting Me and My Katamari when it comes out, though. <3

I've only had it a couple weeks, but HELLS YEAH. Can't put SFA3 down (I think i'm loosening up the analog from it), MHX and Wipeout are great, as is Metal Gear Acid. Still haven't picked up Lumines or Burnout, plus Samurai Warriors and Megaman Powered Up next month, wooo!

but the AMAZING, INNOVATIVE possibilities are elsewhere man!

So-so.

I go through stretches, such as launch and with Wipeout that make it seem very worth it. But the games are really uneven (usually because of controls, loading, etc.) and I don't use the multimedia capabilities as much as I used to.

I don't regret buying it, but it doesn't feel worth the price right now. I hope it improves over the next year.

It's been worth it for me. Surfing the net, watching movies, and, of course, playing the good games from launch and those trickling in these past few weeks have justified the cost.

Ridge Racers
Lumines
GTA: LCS
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Mega Man X
Exit
Xmen Legends 2
Burnout Legends
Metel Gear Acid
Everybody's Golf

That's a decent amount of good/great software. Plus the firmware upgrades have done the impossible and have added some killer functions to the system.

It's definitely a borderline call for me.

I've enjoyed having the PSP because i'm just a console/hardware freak and I want to own it. But in reality I haven't truly been mesmerized by the system so far.

I really enjoyed Ridge Racer, Wipeoue:Pure, Hot Shots Golf, Lumines (sort of), and maybe Virtua Tennis. But thats really about it.

I'm really dissapointed with the tiny amount of online games as well. I've got a killer app online game in Mario Kart DS, but I still have yet to find a great online game on the PSP.

I sacrificed it for Christmas funds in December, I wasn't playing it as much as a I should be playing something that cost ÂŁ200+

Having said that, its now finally starting to become worth it. FINALLY. This year there is a shitload of stuff coming thats gonna warrant me picking one up again.

For WipEout Pure alone, yes.
The bitter taste left after wipeout fusion was all but gone after gaming a few hours with PURE, unfortunately my 1Gig memory card screwed up on me and i lost over 40Hours worth of gameplay so when i ever decide to get a new one it'll be another 40+ hours trying to get golds.
GTA LC is also pretty nice but i'm kinda sick of GTA and Lumies is great too.
The only thing which sucks is that terrible D-PAD, otherwise it's a perfect little package.

That's an AWFUL lot of filler, not to mention at least 1/2-2/3 of that list are ports.
Yup, and some of those are pretty bad filler. NBA Street anyone? ;/

I guess if someone didn't have a decent computer, and didn't have an HDTV, and spent a lot of time on a train each day, the PSP is a must have piece of hardware. For everyone else it seems optional.

It's definately NOT been worth it.

I got a PSP from the first shipment from Japan in December 2005. It was an incredible item to hold or put on the table. I would just look at its beauty. Ridge Racers and Lumines were excellent. I spent many long nights with the PSP in bed just because the screen was so cool.

Then, Q1/05 came the hangover. No decent games, US launch still some time off. Novelty of the hardware wearing off. After that, it's been only downhill. SSX gave me some good moments on the most turbulent flight I've ever had. I was waiting GTA LCS like the next coming of Jesus, and picked it up from Heathrow for a long LHR-SFO flight. Eight hours in, it just didn't pack the excitement San Andreas had.

I bought five movies, as well as Little Britain and Office. Movies turned out to be nearly impossible to watch from the small screen - something would distract me. Shorter comedies worked well, however. Still, laptop + DVD is the combo to beat in in-flight entertainment.

After getting Nano and seeing some of the new cellphones, PSP has started to look big and clunky. DS games gave me much more good times last year (Nintendogs, Another Code, Meteos, Advance Wars). My only concern with DS was that it was so fucking cheap looking and ugly. Now, that's been taken care of with DS Lite and New SMB + Brain Training are coming. DS Lite will be my machine of love this year.

From the technology high late 2004 until today, PSP has horribly underdelivered and doesn't have any appeal to me anymore. Even games like Gradius and Katamari Damacy are not getting me back excited.

I spoke in the office with some mates, and they had a similar experience. Everybody has been surprised how PSP hasn't been worth it.

I never ever cared about handheld gaming before, and now I have over 10 games for the PSP. There have been some lean periods, but for the most part, it's a supplemental system for me that I play during lunch, when our main TV is being used for something else, or when I'm out stuck somewhere I don't want to be, although I have played quite a bit at home.

It's been perfect for me and easily holds it's own, IMO. I am waiting for the first great RPG though. I enjoyed Untold Legend & X-Men and I'm definitely getting the UL sequel in a few weeks, but I could really do with a nice turn based RPG.

Blah, the majority of the listed titles are not ports. More importantly overall, there good games.

Maybe you missed out, but NBA Street (PSP) is a damn solid game (not great, but good). I think the PSP is worthwhile for individuals who enjoy handheld entertainment in general, simple as that.
