How will I benefit from 16MB cache as opposed to 8MB?

Is the extra cache necessary? Will I notice any differences?

Where would 16MB cache benefit me the most?

When and if I can sell off the new 160MB Barracuda I have (It's for sale to GAFFERs), I'm going to pick up a SATA HD. I've noticed there are some drives out now with 16MB cache, which is why I'm asking.

$70 + whatever shipping costs. I'll find out the shipping and let the buyer know exactly how much it will be. I'll even go as far as telling you how much it weighs and everything so the buyer can verify I'm not screwing him/her over.

DaCoco didn't want to cover the shipping cost, and I'd rather make a pure $70 from this instead of $65 or so after shipping.

here's a link to shere I've got a description of the drive: http://www.ga-forum.com/showpost.php?p=2097816&postcount=314

16MB cache... Eh, it can speed up some operations, but even then only somewhat. Check out the new WD 400GB drive with 16MB cache. It's the fastest 7,200 RPM drive, it's inexpensive, it's gigantic... It's the cat's ass. I have one for storage alongside my 74GB Raptor.

400GB is more data than I'll need. I'm looking to get a 250GB or so drive.

Any idea when Seagate will start releasing drives with 16MB cache? I'd like to get a Seagate drive when they come out.

Well, I know Maxtor put 16MB of memory on their 7200RPM SATA drives so that it had "comparable" performance to my WD Raptor 10,000 RPM SATA drive, so maybe that should give you a good idea.
