HDLOADER - Found Impressions

Yes, so long as you have a Hdd for the Hdloader.

So awesome!

Are there any other cool applications for the memory card exploit that you can use on an unmodded PS2? Marconelly talked about running homebrew demos and stuff, any more info on that would be great... I wish someone would write a program to load emulators and stuff from the HDD, or PSOne games.

you still need a way to boot the cd-r

I'll do that on my friend's modded PS2 :P You just need to boot the CD-R once to install the files on the memory card, then as long as you have the original PSOne game and the memory card they should work on an unmodded PS2, at least that's how I understand it.

The CD-R thing is just a one time process, right? Anyone mind lending me a swap magic DVD for a day? :P

Is there any compatability conflicts using the memory card exploit, or is it pretty much like the real thing?

All you will need is the Swap Magic Cd. If you are interested, talk to you during SOCOM II this week.

EDIT: Crap, you either need to take apart your PS2 so you can do the disc swap, or do the knife trick to take out the tray of your PS2 in order to switch from the Magic disk to the CD-R.

Couldn't a sharkport just work? Transfer the files from PC to memory card?

How about I send someone a copy of my Castlevania-SOTN game and memory card and do it for me, plus a couple bucks for the labor :P

The thing is, the files are either invisible on the memory card when viewing from the Browser, or are the corrupted blocks that I have on my card. Tenchir or Faceless, help me out here...

HDLoader is dead but you can still find some, HDAdvance (which is a HDLoader hack I think it was proved) is supposed to be more compatible and use the same partition system (and thus the same tool) than HDLoader.

So if you can't get HDLoader get HDAdvance it's in practice the same stuff
HDAvance is a 100% hack.. nothing was changed except text and images, well, and a huge table of contents so people with fliptops only have to swap one less time... compatibility is 100% identical...

I would have said sharkport too, since if you can't installed from PS2 > MC(can't boot from CDr), or PC > MC, then USB > MC is the next best thing..... How about using Codebreaker 7.1/8, Action Replay Evo/Max, or Gameshark USB save support? I don't have any cheat device, so I can't test if it works.

Someone would need to do a working exploit, export the save file to the USB flash on the PS2, then import it to a different MC and see if it works. If it works, then you can just send the files to other people.

i haven't actually tried this or anything, but i heard the new action replay that comes with that genesis emulator lets you launch pretty much any homebrew app, including hdloader

The actual HDDloader or a burned copy of the HDDloader? A real copy of the HDDloader can load itself...

Whaaat? You mean Action Replay on an unmodded PS2??

apparently some stuff (including HDLoader) will work with EVO as long as you rename it to autoexec.elf and providing it doesn't have any external files linked to it like .irx files...

Just go to www.ps2nfo.com forum if you have problem with memory card exploit.

They just release a boot.elf that will boot HDAdvance from MC......WITHOUT THE EXPLOIT!! Instructions are also given somewhere in the thread.

http://www.ps2ownz.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23564

08.09.2004
Today we decided to release a tiny (14.2KB) custom BOOT.ELF
allowing end-users to run HD Advance directly from their Memory Card!
No longer are unnecessary files such as 'PS2Menu' required on the MC,
and triggering the Independence Exploit with any original PSX disc will
bring up the game selection menu automatically. Lastly, our BOOT.ELF
file auto-checks the PS2 BiOS, and loads the HD Advance ELF from
either BEDATA-SYSTEM, BADATA-SYSTEM, or BIDATA-SYSTEM as
necessary. ;)

Uhm, when I meant with the MC exploit, you would only need it once to install it to the MC, after that it is not needed anymore.

You still need a modded ps2 for that, right tenchir?

I'm still reading the thread, it seems you still need to find a way to install the boot.elf + hda.elf into the memory card which requires the CDr..... unless you can find a way to do it by cheating device+USB or PC>MC(someone found a way to do it with XLink in the thread).

This is another tuturial for memory card exploit besides maxconsole(for nonmod ps2).

http://home.rochester.rr.com/ps2ownz/exploit.html

So this boot.elf + HDA.elf pretty much work for a lot of people who had problems before. You still need an original psx game in the drive to boot from memory card though.

in other news, the wheels just keep turning and turning...

K I ordered my first HDloader off of www.ps2cover.com but I tried to order another two from them and I have had no response other than the reciept they email you right after you place your order. I have tried emailing them to get some kinda info regarding my order but I'm just getting a form email saying that their email server is too busy to take in anymore email or something like that. Long story short. Where can I purchase the HDloader from right now??? Anyone know?

Just got my Sharkport today. The HDloader MC exploit does indeed work. Now I just need an HD (that can fit, I have 3 Western Digitals and they don't fit arg. And I don't know where my IBM HD is..yeah I know they suck, but they fit)

Just found out that there's a patching utility that allows you to play games online after you install them with HDLoader. It's called WinDIP1.7

Also, there's a procedure to make FTPing games to HDD work on a completely unmodded console, with no help of modded console. All you need is the regular HDLoader disc and some jumbling with various PC utilities.

Elaborate on this online patch: will this work on certain games or can it be used on games that use the DNAS protocol?

And you can transfert game from the PC->PS2 through the network adapter ( no need to swap the PS2 HD in your PC to install "difficult to install" games anymore ) :)

Works on DNAS games - most of them. Apparently SOCOM 2 is one that doesn't work, but latest EA games work.

Yeah, that's old news, but as I've said above, you can actually make this work using only a HDLoader disc and unmodded PS2.Just look around the that link posted above.

Damn, my Western Digital HD won't fit. I tried opening the Network adaptor, but the data and power connectors have some weird screws on them that I can't remove.

You need HDL_Dump 0.6. and you still need to to do the HD swaping trick to install the little proggy on the PS2 side the first time. After that no more swaping.

Note FAPLink is another proggy that let you install games via the NA.

Where can I get FAPLink!?

You can simply use extension IDE cable and power cords, that should work for any hard drives.

Has anyone tried this? How would it fit into the PS2 HDD bay though?

Sorry for sounding dumb, but where can you find these? I tried at futureshop.ca and radioshack.ca and couldn't find anything.

Couple of weeks ago I found an online guide (with images and illustrations) on how to modify the NA to fit any kind of hard disk, it looked very simple.

Does this work on an unmodded PS2? What do I need? Sharkport + HDD?

Radio Shark, or any other computer stores should have them. Are you sure Futureshop or BestBuys don't carry them?

As far as I know, you can only play online games with the backup when using DNAS patchers. Once you install those games using HDLoader/HDAdvance/etc.... you won't be able to play online. The network part of the Network Adapter is disabled. You could play Socom II single player from HDD(different from making partition for Downloadable Content), but you won't be able to play online.

You NEED the HDD for HDLoader to install games to. Yes, it will work with unmodded PS2, you just need an original PS1 game to boot up the exploit from the memory card. You need the Sharkport to transfer the exploit into the MC, keep in mind you have to create a unique Title.db file for the PS1 game you going to use.

I haven't tried this because I don't have the cheating devices, but it's possible you can transfer the exploit by flash drives using Action Replay Max Evo(or just Max Drive) and CodeBreaker 8.0/8.1. You would need to transfer the system file from the memory card into the PC, extract the files from the system file save, rebuild the files with the exploit using software(savebuilder I think), then transfer it back into the card.

Yep.

Appearantly they're saying there is now a patch that lets you play ps-one games off the HD and that there is absolutely NO loading times when doing so.
