HDLOADER - Found Impressions

"We have sent a sample out for consolenewz to do a review.

but here is a partial view:
Slapped in a Maxtor 60GB, booted the machine, you can tell the ps2 its seeking the HD, then got to the main menu (swirling electro-balls).

opened the tray and put in the HDLOADER disc and close the tray. it booted it.
Asked me to format, took around 3 mins. done.
Legal screen appeared, (YES or NO). done..
insert a original game, it checked it and installed it. (15 mins for 2GB).
opened the tray took out my original game. and booted it from the HDLOADER menu.

now you ask how about your backups of your original games... well, it does work as well if you have a modified psx2.

But tomorrow there should be an official consolenewz review up. Remember it might not work with all games, but when it works, it works nice... too nice!"

Got this off the forums at http://www.consolenewz.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=6 The post appears to be from a distributor, by the sound of his earlier posts.

Time to order this son of a bitch. Unless they make a new version that will allow you to FTP into the PS2. Tsc tsc.

Now I get it...

*Orders HDLoader*

Thank goodness for Gamefly!

Any plans of a Xdude loader?

No need, a modded Xbox lets you back up games to your HDD

Nevermind, I guess you want a way to back up games without modding an Xbox

may I ask what you are buying this thing for?

To save the PS2 by putting less stress on the laser, of course!

Gunther: Yup, been playing my Xbox games from HDD for the past year or so. It's great!

So, do you need a slide card or modchip in your PS2 to copy the games over to the HDD with this thing? I was under the impression that the PS2 would reset whenever you open the disc tray otherwise...

For me, convenience of having my legitimate library of games available on demand without having to sift through discs. For others, I'm sure there's shadier intent involved.

No modchip is required.

so you have to format your HD that would mean all FF11 files? that would suck.

and I am not talking about playing games online with this because I know you can't but to have to erase all your other online stuff sucks

I don't think that I could ever bring myself to buy a used hard drive.

anyone else have an opinion on this? Im considering it but a couple questions come to mind.

why would there be used HDDs so soon after they came out? is ebgames.com pretty good for used hardware? does this include FFXI?

"it works quite well, i would say in gaming loading or between levels is normally for larger games like 20-30secs, now its like 5 secs.. of course depends on the game, but its fast!'

woohoo thought so

You also need the ps2 network adapter to hook up ANY hard drive, it has connections on the back that you need.

Boot disc? You just need the HDDloader disc, and the original game if you don't have a modchip.
err...I'm asking the same question you asked in the other thread ... you need to load the game to the HDD off the original game disc ... fine .. but do you need to have the original game disc inserted to play the game later or can you run it off the HDD with the HDDloader disc?

You don't need the original game disc after you copy it to the HDD. That's the whole purpose of the HDDLoader, so you don't need to load the original game disc ever again. Just load off the HDD once you have the game transferred

Did you guys go with the Airmail, or spring for the extra EMS? I'm about to order one, and I'm just wondering. Also, has anyone here actually ordered one from divineo.cn? That is where I'm was gonna place my order unless there is a better (ie safer) site. Any suggestions?

Guess who got their's HDLoader in the mail right now :)

Dude, you have to give some impressions once you get it up and running please?. Where did you order from? Seems wherever it was, they were reliable. Do you you have a site URL?

Got my tracking number yesterday, I ordered from console-corner. I'll post some impressions if I get it in a timely manner (hopefully this week).

Nah the important information is, wil it install backuped games without the need of a modchip? Cause where I live, there's no chnace I'm gonna let my games into the open!

I just finish removing the 120 GB Maxtor drive from this PC because I was using it for storage(lots of anime). Formating the drive with the disc right now. I will test a couple of games today, I don't really need to be thourough since there's already other people giving impressions on the HDLoader they received.

Edit: Any games you guys can think of that has a lot of loading in it?

To quote from the official HD Loader page itself, "Sunday 13th June: IMPORTANT NOTICE: Due to the confusion surrounding the shipment of HD Loader, we felt it would be a good idea to post this notice. Divineo UK received its HD Loader NTSC stock on Friday 11th of June, and commenced shipping all pre-orders placed via Divineo US at this time. This means anybody that made a pre-order via Divineo US should receive their copy soon (we have had reports from people who have already received their copy)."

So some of you should be receiving it tommorow.

Oh yeah, it seems you can now install the FFXI v1.0 utility disc on your 3rd party HDD if your PS2 is modded. <-Meaning you should be able to install HDD-ready games like REO and SocomII without patching it.

Due to the limitations of the network adapter, the ps2 can only recognize 127 gb. So if you use a 160 gb compatible hard drive, it will only recognize the first 127 gb.
remember that folks.

I wonder if they'll make a way to load images on the HDD via computer, then be able to move the HDD to the PS2

Could someone clarify whether you need the broadband adapter as well for the HD Loader to function properly?

Edit: nevermind, missed that part

You NEED the adapter since it's the adapter you will connect the HDD directly to, the adapter then connects to the PS2.

HDD > NA > PS2

You can't connect the HDD directly to PS2. Just finish formating the drive, now going to install Disgaea.
