HDLOADER - Found Impressions

it's a mode where it can install and run apps like pukklink, emulators, homebrew apps and the ps2 media player off of a standard ps2 memory card... you can install apps to the memory card by making a text based script along with the files and burning them on a cdr(w) disk...

Just pick remove from the menu.

I do like this utility. Although the potential for serious HARRRRR(m to sales) is scary, I have a 1st gen PAL PS2, which has started to show serious disc read issues - stuttering cutscene video playback etc. - I hope this saves my console a bit. Especially because WE7I patches sometimes cause very erratic disc access.

I wonder - do ALL PS2 online games not work online through the HDL, or is it just the more recent ones that specifically use DNAS? Would something like TMB:O work online? Or the original SOCOM?

Guess I could check on my own since my copy of HDL arrived last night, but if anyone knows for sure already, I'd appreciate it.

games loaded from hd cant go on sony's official network, since hdloader doesnt copu the dnas code
HOWEVER you can still play most ps2 games online using Xlink Kai, witch supports ps2 aswell as GC and Xbox.
check it out at www.teamxlink.co.uk

yeah :(
imagine how cool it wouldve been if sony did system link throught the network adapter from day one ... we'd be playing gt3 online right now

I'm left imagining how cool it would be if those assholes at divineo.com would respond to my 2 customer support emails. I'd imagine it'd be sweet if paying for 24 shipping meant anything. I'd imagine that ordering the damn thing on June 16th with a 3 day wait and 24 hr shipping would gaurantee I'd have mine by now, June 25th.

Has anybody been ripped off by these folks before? They seems like an established site with no reason to believe this is common practice. They sell a wide variety of products. I can't comprehend what the problem is here. Espacially when they ignore my f*cking emails and don't have a support phone number.

Not before, but I'm in pretty much the same situation as you are. I think I've ordered it on 15th, even. To this day I haven't got a confirmation that they've sent it, but conveniently enough, they've billed my CC the same day I've ordered it. :\

I'm in the same situation JohnDoe. I ordered on the 16th as well, got a order confirmation and haven't heard anything since.

I've just received an email from Divineo. I'll post it's contents here :

"Thank you for contacting us,

Right now we are very busy working to ship all orders. Last week we moved in a new office and then we had alot of HDLoader that were pre-ordered to ship. Theses event created a back log in our shipment and emails. We appologize for this situation and we hope you understand the situation. Everything should be back to normal next week. If you didn't got your tracking yet, you will shortly.

In addition, here is a small FAQ :

Q1. Why I didn’t received my HDLoader yet?
A1. We have *a lot* of pre-order to ship. We will need few days more to ship them all.

Q2. I didn’t ordered a HDLoader and my order is late, why?
A2. We moved last week (so we couldn't ship during two days) and we have also to ship a lot of HDLoader that were pre-ordered. You may experiment a 1-3 days delay. We apologize for this delay.

Q3. I received a Canada Post tracking and it doesn’t work, why?
A3. There is a small bug with the scan process at Canada Post. Some package show up in the database only when they are received. This should be fixed within 1-2 weeks. But the day you got your tracking, we sent the package.

Q4. I received a FedEx Tracking, and it's not working right now.
A4. The FedEx database will be updated later the same day.

Does anyone with Hdloader have Grandia 2? I heard that some of the major slowdown in that game came from disc streaming (some not all) and was wondering if running via HDLoader this game is now semi playable?

I'd check it myself but like the two other posters in this thread I ordered straight from Divineo and have yet to recieve a shipping email from them.

-Edit- Also has anyone tried this with Okage: the Shadow King? I wanted to like that game but the load times were so frequent and so long.

The real test for the HDLoader would be Stuntman.

How bad is the loading for Stuntman? Never tried it.

Popolocrois 3 has THE WORST loading in any game I've ever encountered. Can't wait to have that alleviated with this.

Everytime you fail a mission, you have to watch the reloading screen for about 15-25 secs. And failing a misson happens frequently.

It's not the loading times in Stuntman themselves, but when you fail a part of a scene, it resets and you have to wait for it to load again (15-20 seconds). So you can driver for maybe 5 seconds and have it load up again.

Well I'm impressed,

Out of the 10 or so titles I've tried they've all worked. And it's super fast too.

I ran out + bought a Maxtor 7200rpm 120gig drive (8 meg cache) and started to index all my games.

No luck on Champions of Norrath though (it's dvd9), but I did find directions on how to do it.

Has anyone tried to install Contra: SS on the hdd? My disc is in pristine condition but gives me read errors immediately and refuses to install. I haven't seen it listed on any compatibilty lists...I even made a copy of it hoping maybe that would work but nope. :( <- (and yes I own the freaking game so keep your pirate pics to yourself)

Do you guys mind listing the games you've succesfully installed?

Anyone having issues with CD games? Tam Tam Paradise (JP) didn't copy (some error came up), but Mad Maestro did. Edit - Contra SS PAL works.

Ah, FINALLY back! *Sucks in some air* *coughs out* Ok, back to business.

I had some minor problems with CD games as well, two of them, one ICO PAL gave me "harddrive is full" error when I had 22GB left. Also I got to play some old games I put in. MAN, does WRC2 suck in comparison to RSC2. :P

Also, can someone host my avatar again? It's really small.. and cool. Here it is anyways: ftp://upload:upload@217.215.3.47:21

ICO is a DVD game ;). I got the "hard drive full" error too first time, but then tried it again and it worked. I think it's just tempremental.

Most of my CD games took two tries to install - one gives a full HD error, the second time works perfectly. Nothing works for Tam Tam Paradise though.

It says my Orginal Tekken 4 disc is not a valid PS2 disc although on first go it did start to read it and then failed. Since then it won't even recognise it.

Some back ups although they boot with no problems can't be read. It is all luck of the draw.

Ok you guys have to help me understand this thing.

Get HDD (have two 40gbs)
Get HDloader
Format drives
Put games on it (does it matter if they are Japanese imports going on a US ps2? any mod chip needed?)

Can you hot swap the HDD's i have a FFXI one and two regular ones that i would use for my game collection. I just dont want to loose any data.

Alright, I just ordered mine. I can't until it gets here. So amped.

My only question is just a clarification regarding FFXI. I am not planning on getting another HD at this time. Will FFXI play fine once I've loaded the HDloader onto my HD? From what I understand, HDloader will only be formatting the unused portion of my current HD. Correct? FFXI will be untouched?

So far, of the imports I've tried, I haven't been able to get the first Taiko no Tatsujin, Zooo!, or Gregory Horror Show (PAL) to install; I get the same disc error dealie.

Of the ones I've got installed, only Technic Beat is giving me any loading problems -- it gets to and just past the memory card auto-load screen and then hangs no matter which of those 3 enabled/disabled mode options I try.

Overall I can't complain, though -- being able to multiboot & permanently shelve all of these discs is nice, and the [lack of] load times are incredible. Shame it's already being utilized/marketed/castigated as solely a piracy device.

I use a fliptop, so half yes/half no.

You can get around the 'not a valid ps2 disc!' error by opening the tray and putting in a US region dvd/cd, letting it spin a bit, then selecting 'install' and swapping in the import. I don't know, though, if the HDLoader is doing any checking of the original's TOC and if that's giving me errors with the swapped in disc. Technic Beat installed without hitch, so I dunno what's mucking things up while playing. I think that menu of the enable/disable modes is only really useful if the game won't load at all, not for it hanging soon after it starts.

brandonnn, do you have Katamari Damacy? If so, can you see if it will install? I'm really close to ordering the game, but may wait for US version if it's not compatible.

Yeah, that's one of the last of the pile I want to install, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I'll give it a shot tonight and let you know how it works out.
