Healthy Gaf, looking some advice

I know the vast majority of you unwashed heathens barely see the light of day from your basement dwellings, but I dare say there a few of you that take care of themselves, lately if there's a bug hovering off the coast of Spain.. I catch it, if someone sneezes in central London I'm coughing the next day.. I'm on my 2nd bout of bloody COVID in under a year after coming off the worse flu I've had in years over Xmas, I basically have the immune system of an 80's AIDs patient and I'm looking for some sort of help in the form of non disco pill's, i.e. multi vitamins or Goop wellness Eggs, anything that will help my beleaguered and somewhat useless immune system fight off these recurring colds, sniffles and CHYNA FLU, any recommendations chaps?

Washing your hands regularly, namely when you get home and before you eat is probably the best preventive measure you can have.

Covid wrecked my immune system as well as my parents.
My dr suggested taking vitamin c to help boost the immune system. I've been taking it for a few years now as well as my mother and we've noticed some improvement. We only really get sick near the end of the year and that's mostly due to my honorary nephews and their school. Unfortunately when we get sick it is still pretty bad in most cases but we don't get sick often at least

Go see a GP and get your blood works done to see if you're deficient in any vitamins etc.

I get as much nutrition as possible through food, but I personally rate the following supplements to support the immune system.

Vitamin D3 (Only in the autumn and winter)
Vitamin k2 MK-7
Omega 3
Magnesium glycinate
Bio-cultures complex
Green lipped mussel
Black maca root
Creatine Creapure

Just eat lots of cultured food for probiotics man, remember to never try to fix that part through supplements as probiotic supplements are probably the biggest scam in the entire industry. Other than probiotics, make sure you're getting as many veggies as you can fit into your mouth into your diet, and eat a good bit of fruits as well, particularly less starchy ones like berries. Then, try to exercise somewhat often, (no need to be obsessed with it like so many people are these days, as far as mortality rates go you've gotten all the benefit you can gleam from exercise from about thirty to forty five minutes of quality training), and at that point you've done everything you realistically can, at which point I say take an edible or smoke a joint and try to relax as much as possible as stress is the biggest killer out there.

I very rarely get sick, but it's usually because of having been stressed out for a long time, not used my scarf or gotten my feet cold. That's the indirect reason, but if someone sick sits next to me I can feel their germs even before they start coughing and if I have to sit there for too long I probably get sick. The trick when you get sick is to let your body work through it, sleep and drink plenty of fluids. I only get fever and headaches if I don't use nasal spray to keep my nasal areas clear from snot. Once it clogs up everything gets much worse.

I take vitamin D because of my dark skin, I also drink some (lactose-free) milk every day; that's it, feel good though.
I once told my foreign Asian colleague, who has somewhat darker skin than me, that the health authority in my Scandinavian country recommends especially foreigners with darker skin to eat D-vitamin supplements because otherwise they won't be getting enough of it up here. He looked at me like I was some kind of racist. I myself eat the supplements despite being pale because I can't stand being in the sun for long so I was a bit confused by his reaction.

Main thing that gets people is touching your mouth or eyes when you are in public. When in public, always consider your hands "dirty"

Vitamins and probiotics won't do much for you unless your diet or exposure to sunlight is really bad.

Most effective measure is wearing a mask when in close proximity to others or when in poorly ventilated places

I wash my hands regularly, but it feels kind of redundant when I'm on public transport, supermarket, or in the gym and some dirty cunt selfishly coughs and sneezes in to the air in my vicinity. If I cough or sneeze, I'll pull my t-shirt up over my face.

Exercise
Don't be overweight
No alcohol
No shit food
??????
Profit.

1. Exercising at least three times a week.
2. Check if your body is lacking vitamins
3. Avoid soda, processed food in general
4. Dont drink alcohool or smoke
5. Try to avoid stress
6. Always wash your hands

You can always mark an appointment with an immunologist, endocrinologist and virologist for stuff to help with your immune system.

Considering you came out okay of that Flu i wouldnt be that worried, Covid can damage nerves permanently of severly immunosurpresed patients.

1. Blood work.

2. Take a good look at your diet. Is it full of lean meat, good fats and low glycemic carbs? If no, then change it. Start one meal at a time.

3. Greek fat free plain yogurt for gut health. Your gut is surprisingly the key to overall health.

4. Eat anti- inflammatory foods. Inflammation is an auto- immune response. Less attacking yourself leaves more for attacking things that make you sick.

5. Limit stress. Find ways to chill the fuck out.

6. Get a gym membership. Crush weights and do cardio. Makes your body more resilient.

7. Alcohol and drug use- just don't, or severely limit.

Drink a health potion.

Edit - But in seriousness; exercise & eat well (fresh non-fatty food).

Doubt there's anything wrong with you. Just a string of bad luck.

Manage your sleep and stress levels. Simple as that.

Health is surprisingly simple and the reason most people don't have it is because they're fucking lazy. I hate to break it to you but that is the reality.

I will make it easy for you - My wife was a sleep apnoea specialist doctor for 17 years so let me help you out breh.

So, starting with the single most important thing you can do for your health to improve quickly that most people don't even think about.

1. Good sleep and sleep hygiene, and understanding what circadian rhythm is. This is not broscience, its hard scientific fact that he who sleeps the least, dies the soonest. If you ignore this first step, you can almost guarantee poor health regardless if you follow everything else perfecty. Making sure you get at least 8 hours of deep, uninterrupted sleep in a comfy bed every night will have the biggest impact on your health.Sleep disturbances lead to mitochondrial damage and dysfunction, potentially contributing to the onset and progression of various neurological diseases. Furthermore, the circadian rhythm and sleep-wake cycles are influenced by mitochondrial activity. My wife helped more than 10,000 people over her career with severe health issues related to sleep. It is not only about getting enough, it is about sleep quality.

- get a high quality bed and matress. with natural sheets (cotton, avoid polyester / skin irritating plastic biproducts that fuck up your sleep. yes this is a thing)
- get a blackout blind
- get your ass to sleep before midnight every night, ideally before 11pm max.
- track your sleep
- avoid screens and food at least 2-3 hours before bed

2. Fix your gut. A healthy microbiome in your gut is the key to longevity and immune health, providing you are not skipping step 1. High quality grass fed meat, bone broth, natural fats, fruits, root vegetables and plenty of (ideally unpasteurised) dairy like cheese and milk, greek yoghurt. Your health will soar. Cut out processed food entirely, and get sugars only from fruit and honey.

3. Exercise - walking, cycling, lifting heavy weights 2-3 times a week is enough to keep you in top shape.

That is it. There are no 'health hacks', there are no corners to cut, there are no excuses. You either do the above or you die sooner than you should.

I'd recommend doing a full blood screen once a year. Checking everything - vitamin B & D, iron, CRP, haemoglobin… they will give you good pointers on your immunity. If you do it yearly you can seize and catch anything that would lead you to a place like where you are now.

Here is my standard blood screen I do each year:

I personally think this is a bad idea for most people because it leads to anxiety. This is how people like Bryan Johnson become so popular by grifting on peoples health anxieties.

I guess people are different. For me, there has been no anxiety, just agency.

I started in 2019, when I discovered and quickly reversed my Vitamin D deficiency. - just ahead of Covid. Then in 2020 I spotted borderline blood glucose and managed to stop and reverse an impeding pre-diabetes. In 2023 I saw my cholesterol continue to develop unfavourably, and managed to completely reverse that, now having optimal lipids, optimal cardiac risk markers and low amount of inflammation.

All of these interventions have undoubtedly improved my immunity and longevity, unchecked they could have had potentially life altering consequences in the next decades. Now I have best bloods of my lfie.

I'm not the healthiest specimen, but I rarely get sick. Could be genetics, but I do make sure to bathe regularly, take my Vitamin D, eat cultured food occasionally, and take either zinc or Vitamin C if I start with the sniffles.

M8 tbh I'm thinking it is ffs, 3 bad bouts in the space of a year and a Xmas flu that was an absolute knockout, this 3rd dose has given me a wake up call that I need to do something

My take:
  1. Supplements are 98% bullshit. Supplements that claim to boost your immune system are 99.9% bullshit. The only supplement that seems to really boost your immune system is Testosterone, but that's a Faustian bargain if you're not suffering from low T levels.
  2. Your vitamin levels are a small piece of the puzzle. You can get a blood test with a vitamin panel at just about any lab and they're not very expensive. They'll send you a PDF with a breakdown of all the vitamin levels and where you rank out compared to the standard. I do this every other year and I always need a big dose of D3 to get my levels up to normal and keep them there. I also think Magnesium Glycinate is generally a good idea unless you know you're eating a lot of plants that are high in mag already.
  3. I'm not jacked or in great shape, but I've been following body building style workouts for 20+ years off and on. I was never a fan of doing daily cardio. However, a few years back I was sufficiently convinced by Peter Attia that daily cardio is by far the #1 action a person can take to improve their short and long term health. I bought an inexpensive stationary bike and a Polar heart rate monitor. I've been doing 30 minutes a day around 320 days a year on average. I typically do this work in the morning with only coffee and water in my system. Aside from knowing it's a good long term investment, the daily benefits are really amazing. It's a huge boost to my mood, it basically prevents indigestion issues unless I eat tomato sauce at dinner time, and it makes the aches and pains that have started to creep in (just turned 45) hurt less.
  4. Cut out the junk food, fast food, and sugar. Eat as many plants (other than fried potatoes) as you can make yourself eat. If you want to be a math nerd about it, you can track your calorie intake and try to get 85% of your calories in a month from whole foods (meat, fish, dairy, whole grains, legumes, fruits, veggies, seeds, and nuts). If you do that, you're going to be in a much better place that if you just eat by instinct. If you can raise that number over time to 90% or higher, even better.
  5. If you're getting your blood checked and you do the work to get all your levels into the best shape you can, and you're exercising regularly, and you're trying to keep the junk food to a minimum, and your immune system really is compromised for some reason, then the last thing you can really do is prevention and avoidance. Don't go out in public if you don't have to. If you do have to go out, wear the goofy mask and carry hand sanitizer.

Diet is key.

Forget anything else. Multi vitamin pills provide a bit of a boost, but the best way to obtain a strong immune system is with a rich and balanced diet.

Eat clean and avoid ultra processed foods. You also want to eat a wide variety of fruit, veg, nuts, seeds, lentils etc. Basically eat natural.

Working out also helps. You don't need to start bodybuilding, but any regular exercise is fantastic in boosting your immune system.

That's all you need.

Going to repeat what others said. Do a blood test to check your vitamin levels especially D, your colesterole LDL, etc. You're not getting any younger and yes alcohol and shit food is something you will have to cut if you wanna keep living without any meds or vitamins. Since you keep getting the flu and covid I reckon your vitamin D is abysmally low. It's not enough to get some sun in your face and lately I noticed most people have very low levels of D and I'm not sure why, maybe the food we're eating is getting worse and the planet is getting more fucked, but alas, you need to digest every day some suplements. Working out is a given, 5 day split at least, no need to hit the gym, just get some dumbbells and work out 30 mins your whole body a day and you're good for maintenance.
