Went in to Gamestop after work to see if I could preorder/reserve a copy of Phantom Dust. I was told that the ship date was removed from the system and NONE of the local stores (3) will be getting ANY copies in. He said the local Gamestop managers think the title has been cancelled. WTF is going on?

Heh...this wasn't some conversation by the McFarlane toys. He actually looked it up in the computer and said it showed they weren't getting any copies in.

Either way...I'm off to EB to preorder a copy.

Which means that your Gamestop won't be getting any in. Considering that it's an obscure, full priced Japanese game on the Xbox, that might be rather fiscally responsible of them. Who knows.

This is the same Gamestop that told me a busted up Dreamcast game was new and lied about the Xenosaga preorder disc. So...i'm probably getting punished for still shopping there.

I think your Gamestop may have thought that the game is cancelled because there is no SKU entered for Phantom Dust in the computers. They have to produce a generic preorder for the game if you want to preorder it

I tried to preorder PD at GS but they could not do it. I talked to the mangers and they assured as soon as it came in they would put one aside for me.

I just got a call from their automated phone system saying "your game will be arriving tomorrow afternoon". I wonder if "your game" is phantom Dust?

No, Wario was right, it was always a generic sku with them. They do this with nearly every semi-obscure release these days. Don't those types of games need the pre-order even more?

What sucked was when I preordered Katamari Damacy under a generic SKU, and I wasn't even notified that it was in. Hell, the guy didn't even know I had it preordered because he checked that morning to see if anyone preordered Katamari and he couldn't find any preorder slips

The guy at my Gamestop knew of the game and I mentioned that I was pre-ordering specifically to avoid the dreaded "We didn't get any" business that these chain stores pull lately. He even said, "Yeah, this is the kind of game we SHOULD have in here!" because he knew that they freaking TELL people to pre-order stuff like this.

So he did a pre-order of generic rage for me and hopefully it'll be in tomorrow. I really would like it to be so I can pick that up and something else. I don't know what yet but the price drops are happening fast these days so I just have to lash out with a purchase!

that reminds me of when i took my brother in there to preorder Chrono Cross the day before it came out.

Brother: "Yeah are you guys gonna be getting Chrono Cross in?"
Guy: "Yeah, it comes out tomorrow."
Brother: "Cool, i'd like to preorder it."
Guy: "uhhhm, yeah, it comes out tomorrow."
