Hell Let Loose: Vietnam - Trailer

Ooh nice, we don't get enough Vietnam games, Rising Storm was brilliant. I hope they fix a lot of the HLL QOL issues with this though, build it on a newer version of the engine and fix some jank. Wonder how the original HLL will be supported after this.

FYI for people. The og hell let loose guys are working on an extraction shooter called Hunger.

HLL is being maintained by a new studio that team 17 setup. It's not clear who has been working on this game but I'm skeptical either way.

If this can emulate even half of the fun of battlefield vietnam it will be great.

Taking a chopper with the boys listening to CCR, getting sniped as soon as you land and dying like a dog in the middle of vietnamese jungle, only to do it all over again as soon as you respawn. Those were the days.

The vietnam FPS genre has been needing a good game for a while. Last we had was rising storm 2 years ago. And it's only on PC. There was a kickstater project called burning sands that died. The market is there. Glad team 17 is taking it.

Love this setting so much.
It's a bit sad that it's so underutilized, I love the asymetric warfare aspect of it.
Will play this for sure.

For those who are curious but don't know much about the setting please do yourself a favour and watch Ken Burns Vietnam War.

Give the US tons of air power.
Give the Vietnamese tons of tunnels and traps.
I want to fear the trees while playing as the US and I want to fear the skies while playing as the NVA.
Not shown in the trailers. I wouldn't count on it.
According to the blogpost helicopters will actually play a big role yes, the US will be able to use them to both move troops and drop supplies.

Meanwhile the NVA will have the hability to build tunnels which is even better than what I expected.
I expected tunnels to be like Rising Storm 2 but being able to build them dynamically throughout the map sounds excellent, lots of potential to have some crazy matches with such different mechanics being front and center of both factions.

Okay. I gotta let my autism show for a moment.

Trailer says 1965. Why do we have 30 round magazines in the M16A1s? 30 round magazines weren't really introduced until 1967 and really didn't see widespread use until the 70s. There was a M203 as well shortly after which wasn't introduced until 1969 and again not really deployed until the 70s. If anything they might have XM148s but as far as I'm aware those were only in service for a year or so and got pulled in 1966 or 1967.

Congrats on your autism.

As an aside - it's a videogame and nobody cares about this accuracy. Thanks.

I'm more interested in the fact the tiny segment of gameplay looked like it recycled the exact same spot. Makes me question the release date tbh. Also would like to know if they have moved on from UE4. Would be good if they shifted to the latest UE5, not earlier ones just 5.5 onward.

They already said it was going to be UE5, which version I don't know.

I also want to see a bunch more gameplay. I wish they could make battlefield like hell let loose tbh. Ultra giant map with actual team play. Remove the lame ticket system and just make it first to capture all points.

HLL is one of my favourite games ever. I love the commander and squad stuff in HLL. Had some of the most epic multiplayer gaming experiences with that game.

Not true.

It'd be one thing if this was just a Call of Duty ripoff, but Hell Let Loose was developed and marketed as a tactical FPS, and we'd expect the same approach to authenticity for the "sequel." It may not be a full-blown mil-sim, but the little details matter all the same.

In HLL you can also play with STG44s, G43s and the likes in battles where they had no place being.
These games aim for immersion, not absolute realism, which is how it should be done imo.

Yes it's marketed as a tac fps for gameplay, that draws the line when the realism becomes laborious and unfun. Put all the fun guns and shit in from around that time please. We care not for the history autists.
