Hellboy Web of Wyrd - Reveal Trailer

IbizaPocholo

NeoGAFs Kent Brockman

Hellboy Web of Wyrd is a roguelite action adventure with an original story created in partnership with Dark Horse Comics and creator Mike Mignola.

Featuring monstrous toe-to-toe brawling, you need to chain together hard-hitting melee and ranged attacks to fight a diverse array of increasingly nightmarish enemies.

Like the comics, the game sends Hellboy on a series of vastly different and wholly unique adventures. While those stories stand on their own, they are all tied to the mysterious legacy of The Butterfly House. When an agent of the B.P.R.D. is sent on a reconnaissance mission to the mansion and promptly goes missing. It's up to you - Hellboy - and your team of Bureau agents to find your missing colleague and uncover the secrets of The Butterfly House.

Did they fucking copied the shitty combat system from callisto or that bit when he avoid the werewolf was just the whole animations being clunky?

The_Story.png

Built in 1962 by occultist Pasquale Deneveaux, The Butterfly House is more than a mere residence; it's a gateway. Its perverse angles and non-Euclidean geometries were designed with a singular foul purpose in mind: to open doorways into a terrible and fascinating dimension called The Wyrd.

Twenty years later, an agent of the B.P.R.D. is sent on a reconnaissance mission to the mansion and promptly goes missing. It's up to you - Hellboy - and your team of Bureau agents to find your missing colleague and uncover the secrets of The Butterfly House.

During the investigation, you will explore wondrous and strange planes of existence contained within The Wyrd, each one home to powerful monsters, forgotten godforms, magnificent treasures, and powerful secrets. But be warned, because ancient evil stagnates within the furthest reaches of The Wyrd… evil that is eager to be let out.

Yo this looks dope. I was never familiar with the comics but I always liked the artstyle. The first 2 movies were great as well.

You had me at roguelite.

EDIT: Oh damn I knew it looked familiar! It's pretty much the exact art style as West of Dead, or at the very least the render style and so I had a feeling it was from that dev studio. Pretty much seems like they consolidated their assets from that game and bolted the IP on it. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I hope they pull it off. WoD wasn't anything amazing I had fun with it while listening to podcasts. Hope this can captivate a bit more though.

Yeah, as soon as I saw the first screenshots I immediately thought of West of the Dead, which was actually a pretty cool game.

It's funny how West of the Dead had Ron Perlman doing a VO and he played Hellboy in the first films, but not here.

west of dead is cool, I didn't beat it but it's a damn fine twin-stick shooter. Now I also realized it's the same studio. Wishlisted!

Oh wow I totally forgot about Perlman doing the VO for that haha. Would've made so much sense if they hired him again but you're saying it's someone else? Interesting.

I'm kinda dig the art style, but I need to see gameplay, it looks like an indie project, I won't mind paying 10~20 bucks for it if the gameplay is solid.

During the TGA stream when this trailer started I got all excited thinking it was a trailer for The Wolf Among Us 2 but I was completely let down. :(

Chances are that it's a big flop. Change the camera to a Devil May Cry style, put weapons on it, gore, more marketing, and maybe gets more people

Looks exactly like Mignola drew it. Pretty awesome.
Hellboy (the core series) is the best comic of all time - the movies are shit.

I cant stand rougelites though so thats a major bummer.

You seem to have a completely different game on your mind. Western action games seem to be moving more to Over the Shoulder perspective. That trend might persist since GoW did so well.

I heard the game is really boring and extremely repetitive especially with the environments. I watched a YouTube video of it just to check it out and it indeed looks extremely repetitive.

Doesn't help the game also includes characters with "they/them" pronouns because of course.

Art style is fine. Looks like the comics....Animation and environment(while looks like the comics) appears shitty. Especially the animation.

Agree I played the PS Premium trial and while I did have fun with it I can see it getting really repetitive down the line. It seems I pretty much unlocked all of the main mechanics within the 1st hour of my trial as well as most of the weapons.

Maybe it's just not a long game?

It's crap, and a shame too cause they nailed the look but dropped the ball on damn near everything else.
As a rouguelike/lite fan I can squeeze entertainment from even the most mediocre of titles. I deleted this after the first hour of the free trial.

Yeah, you can tell this is a budget-bin game. Hellboy really deserves a proper game.
