goddamit, Griese!
I've come to talk with you again....

I've never seen Simon and Garfunkel mentioned here outside of the lyric threads. I mean, talk about great...it's beyond that. It's beyond classic rock. It's classic poetry to music.
Beautiful, simple songs. Greatly depressing or uplifting, they just have a way with tugging your emotions.
Laid back, eternal music.

You all know "Cecilia" and "Mrs. Robinson" but come on...

If you think I'm a wackjob, just listen to these 3 tracks: "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "The Sound of Silence", "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)"

And also "America" if you're feeling adventurous.

whatever, call it hippie music if you want to. but i'm no hippie, and not nearly a pothead. but i love great music, period. and this is greta music.

I can't even say Simon and Garfunkle without feeling like a fucking dork.

That's because you're 14 and no matter how much "classic rock" you love, some things will just come to you in time. I'm not bashing you at all, I'm just saying...you'll look back in even possibly the not so distant future at a few things you were wrong about. Happens to everyone. (though this is assuming you've heard anything by them, and are not just replying to 'garfunkel LOL', but i'll give you the benefit of the doubt =) )

and guzim, i have always appreciated your taste in music and NBA teams =)

The enhanting choir-boy style is irresistable; everybody likes Simon and Garfunkel. A bit sterile sometimes, but the work is just so strongly crafted. It's a tired choice for a favourite though 'Scarborough Fair' is their best little thing IMO. Paul Simon is one of my favourite songwriters of the second half of the 20th century.

I love the way they sound. I love their music. I just don't like them as people... I don't know why... they both irritate me. They hate eachother too much.

uhmmm if i remember correctly they don't hate each other anymore. they just went on this reunion tour. and all the great musical duos hated each other:

paul and john
rivers and matt

can't think of any others at the moment...

and you turned out all the better for it, i'm sure

Yes sir. My dad has the strangest taste in music for a Chinese man, haha. Loves Elvis, Neil diamond, and when he would drive me to school, the car would be blasting country.

Explains why I DJed in high school. That was MY form of rebellion.

Jeez, Paul Simon is a bigger pox on humanity than even Paul McCartney. I once theorised that 'gar-' was a prefix that meant 'not.'

Simon & Garfunkel is the epitome of soulless, sentimental garbage.

<newb poster>But I own a couple of their albums on vinyl so I'm not biased!</np>

For what it's worth, "The Only Living Boy In New York" is my favorite song from S&G, and an often-overlooked bit of genius. I could go into a paragraph-long explanation about why it kicks so much ass, but I'll spare you...for now.

White Man, we agree on a lot of stuff, but I have to respectfully disagree with the Paul Simon hate. I'll grant you that the quality of his songs is all over the place at times, but his high points are genius.
