Ok so my nephew has a PC & PS2 he wants to share his cable internet connection, and he wants me to hook it up because I have a PC network at home. I have never used a PS2 though so I need a heads up on what to expect.

So he has the PS2, and the PC abviously. He has a cable modem, and a router which he uses to connect to the net, and I assume he also has the network adapter for the PS2. I have plenty of straight through & crossover cables to do the job so what I need to know is this...

Can the PS2 simply jump onboard the network, or do you need any special software/setup to make it work?? I have heard something about a network access disk...not sure if he has one, unless it came with the adapter??

As long as the PS2 is hooked to the router (assuming the router has like a built in 4-port switch or something) there shouldn't be a problem. You just have to set up the right stuff withe setup disk for the PS2, like the gateway, etc. If you end up having to route ports through the router you might need to set up a static IP address for the PS2, but mine works fine through my netgear router as is, so I just have DCHP turned on in the router for dynamic IPs on all the PCs and the PS2 on the network.

Ah, sounds easy then. When I heard there was a network access software of some kind, I wasn't sure if it was for the PS2 or the PC.
