Hey guys,

I imported a couple of DVD's from the UK but unfortunatly the supplier lied and didn't have any NTSC DVD formats, is there anyway to convert it from PAL to NTSC? I really need to some help. I can't return them because I've already opened all of the cases.

Note that u will probably have to re-encode the whole movie and lose some quality because of the framerate difference.

quality I don't really mind, as for menu, extras,etc is it possible to keep those?

Fastest, easiest way to convert it is probably Winavi. I haven't tried anything that comes even close to it for speed. It's an awesome app.

get a multi region dvd player? or just get a cheap dvd player and crack it so it runs all regions.

Not really, there's a shop in my local mall that will do VHS and DVD conversions, they've done an old VHS for my parents and it plays prefectly. They charge 35$ and I bought like 5 box sets and thats way too much money to be converting.

You can get an awesome Philips DVP642 DVD player that plays all regions, converts from PAL to NTSC, no macrovision, plays Xvid, mpgs, and just about any format you throw at it, progressive scan, all at less than $60.

It's probably just better to do this or do it on a modded Xbox than re-encode it.

Modded X-box to re-encode it? I have a modded xbox is there a tutorial for this?

Oh, no, not to re-encode it. An Xbox will automatically convert PAL to NTSC. If the discs are region free. You don't need to do anything but pop them in. If they are region encoded, then you'll have to just make sure you run the software DVD player that's region free.

I think he meant play it on a modded xbox with something like DVD-X v2.0 or XMBC.

I tried it with XBMC didn't work properly it's giving me problems playing PAL stuff

I got it converted and it played on my PC and but when I tried to play it on my TV it says "Television system doesn't match source". Now I changed everything to NTSC am I missing something?

What build date was the XBMC u used? Was it a plain version or souped up version? CVS Builds are compiled daily, if u need more help finding one let me know. DVD-X v2.0 is a version free dvd player.
