Yeah another PC topic. Last one I promise. :D

I've been putting this off for a long time. I just got a DVD writer (and an enclosure) and thought why not start now. I'll be using the same monitor/mouse/keyboard/speakers so I won't need those too. Here we go...

Motherboard: NO IDEA.

CPU: NO IDEA.

Memory: 1 gig.

(It's 'OEM'. I'm not exactly sure what is that and how better the retail version is?)

Sound Card: I think I'll leave this for the motherboard. I'm not an audiophile but if it's really important please tell me. :)

Case: I like this one.

Power Supply: I heard this is really important and I want this PC to last a pretty long time.

No idea what this neo power business is.

Hard Drive:

Video Card:

Expensive. I'm not sure if I want this... @_@

OS: I'll probably get this from school. Are there any disadvantages/differences for not having the full retail version?

More software: Norton messed my PC big time so I'm going with trend micro.

(Question: Do I also need a router? I don't have a network but from what I know it's also a good firewall...)

Do I need anything else? Screws, anti-static gloves or whatever? A big thank you for help. XD

Everything totals up to approximately $680 or so (not counting the OS).

Mobo: Microstar K8N Neo2-Platinum nForce3 (or just get an asus if you want a cheaper one)
CPU: (Duh) an Athlon 64, get whatever speed you can afford. 3000+ is still fine with new games.
Memory: 1 gig, yes. But wich brand? I got my Kingston (I think values) for just $5 more than the cheapest ones, so...
Good case. I think.
No soundcard, wait. The built in is fine for me.
PSU: Just get atleast 400W. The difference between the others is basically noise.
HDD: Yes.
GFX: Yes.
Pirate the software. :)

RAM: 1GB Corsair Value
Audio: M-Audio Revo 5.1 (onboard is usually crap)
CPU: AMD64 3200
PSU: Seasonic Super Silencer/Tornado, 350-400W is enough
Video: ATI 9800PRO
HDD: Any Seagate 7200.8 S-ATA
MBD: K8N Neo Platinum

But might I persuade you into something different?

Clickity click!

Thanks for the replies everybody. XD

max_cool: wouldn't that be useful later on though (256bit memory bus)? I don't want to upgrade this pc for a while.

So for motherboard I think I'm going with what OMC suggested, it has a lot of good reviews.

(couldn't find the motherboard you suggested at newegg drexon o_O)

For the CPU it's gonna be one of these two, I'm just not sure with which one to go with. Any ideas?
