Help me decide on XBOX or PS2 versions of these games..

Red Dead Revolver

Metal Arms:Glitch in the System

Beyond Good and Evil

Freedom Fighters

Kill Switch

#1 most important thing....control issues....I know there are many games that run faster/look better on XBOX but don't control near as well as with a DualShock2...if its vastly better w DS2, I will go with PS2 version even if it looks a little better on XBOX....

#2 most important thing.....graphics features and framerate....conversely, if it controls pretty well on XBOX but has much better graphics and/or runs smoother on Xdude, then I will go with that version...

Games that look better and run smoother on PS2 (I.E. MGS2:Substance) are a no brainer for me :)

Thank you very much

Don't know about controls since I havent played any of those games on Xbox, but all those games are definitely better than the PS2 in graphics, framerate, etc.

I'd have to dig through the IGN Insider archives (bleh) but as far as I can tell the Xbox version of all these games won all the head to head. At least the difference was not big enough for me to remember any Xbox version getting stomped by some other, and usually in this case it's the Xbox version that wins.
Anyway, just get the one cheapest version, unless you have a progressive scan TV of course.

BG&E IGN head to head :
Overall Winner: Xbox

Winner Ranking:
1. Xbox
2. GameCube
3. PlayStation 2
4. PC

- Best version for single player: GameCube/PlayStation 2/Xbox (tie; controller advantages over PC)
- Best version for videophiles: PC (textures, framerate; medium advantage)
- Best version for audiophiles: Xbox/PC (tie)
- Best value/price: GameCube/PlayStion 2/Xbox/PC (tie)

Generaly speaking, I use the box for any multi-platform games. there'a a 90+% chance that the graphical difference alone would be worth it

In other news, I loathe the dual shock.

Well the control thing is a very subjective topic, but having the "use" function on the black button doesn't sound very comfortable to me.

I love the DS, but I prefer the Xbox pad for any shooting type game. Metal Arms seems made for it. I don't know that the differences on the others would be earth shattering except for Red Dead Revolver which looks like a different, poorer game on PS2.

The Cube version of BG&E was the best.
First of all he didn't ask about the Gamecube version at all. And from what IGN says, the Cube versions lacks the center camera button, making it a bit more awkward to control, and you have to go through the menu to see your objectives.
There is no mention of the black button being a problem for "use" in the head to head.
It seems the game was developed with PS2 in mind right from the start, so PS2 or Xbox versions are pretty much the same, so like I said before go for the cheapest version.

Freedom Fighters runs in 720p on the Xbox.

I agree with above, get all of them on Xbox, especially Metal Arms. It is a wicked game and the Xbox version keeps the frame rate up.

Ah, man, now I have to go out of my way to find this. I got the PS2 one for like $5 a few months back and absolutely loved it.

Get them all for xbox. The only ones I don't have for xbox are cod cause I don't own it, and bg&e because it doesn't inlcude the mini game(not really worth it) like the others do.

Get all of that on Xbox. There are multi platform games that are in my opinion best played on PS2, but none of them is on your list

Metal Arms:Glitch in the System

GC or Xbox?

Xbox. I have the GC version and the frame rate isn't as stable. Still a great game though. The developers also stated that the Xbox one was the best of the bunch.

Only two games I can directly comment on are Metal Arms and Freedom Fighters, as I've seen both running on ps2 and xbox. Metal Arms on PS2 has framerate troubles the xbox version does not, and the xbox's controller S felt better for the shooty-shooty stuff. Freedom Fighters didn't really have serious framerate issues (that I saw anyway, played less of this on PS2) but again, the xbox controller was superior for shootin' stuff. Something about a trigger and the tight analog sticks beats out the Dualshock, at least for these types of games.

Plenty of EA games (SSX Tricky, NCAA 2005, etc) and MGS2S... is that it? :/

The Tony Hawk games - online only for PS2, uses EyeToy to scan face, game was fucking built around the DS.
Last years Midway sports games, online only for PS2.

most of the time the Xbox version will usually be a little bit better. although there is the occasional exception. you can usually just trust to get the Xbox version though. control and getting used to a controller comes with time and use. unless there is a bad control scheme or something i wouldn't worry about it too much.

Beyond Good and Evil
PS2 = Lead system for development, prog scan enabled.

Freedom Fighters
PS2 = Lead system for development, better controls.

No way. BG&E is awful on PS2. Easily the worst of the four versions. The textures are lower resolution, the framerate is truly awful, and it has longer loading.

Freedom Fighters is a bit different. It isn't bad on PS2, but the XBOX version IS better. Higher resolution support, smoother framerate, and it controls just fine.

The Xbox version of Metal Arms suffers from heavy tearing. Don't know if the other versions do too.

The V-Synch is off on the Xbox one. The GC one doesn't have the same issue but it does have the lower frame rate. Sometimes really low because when the robots crack open they spew particles everywhere.

Actually get Freedom Fighters for ps2.

Wait wait wait, do you know who you're talking to? This is klee, are you seriously suggesting him to skip one of the very few 720p games? It doesnt even support progressive scan on ps2 iirc.

The ps2 version of need for speed:HP2 absolutely rips apart all the other version including pc. I repeat ABSOLUTELY CURSHES THE OTHER VERISONS!

Yep, and EA Seattle is no more due to that.

(Blackbox did the PS2 version, EA Seattle did the GC/Xbox/PC versions, and basically left out an entire series of tracks, no arrest animations, no special effect powerups, a replay that didn't even show the whole race, and about a hundred other flaws. I was a QA tester for the Xbox version, and they didn't even have analog trigger support for the accelleration/brake for the first few months of development because they had to use PS2 variant controls [I lobbied and had the analog trigger support added, I actually designed that particular control setup for the Xbox version, C-type]).

Take Killswitch off your list and replace it with Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy.

No. Sphinx is backwards. The game should of been centered around the mummy and it bogs down when the mummy isn't involved. Still a good game but Kill Switch kicks ass.

Red Dead Revolver

Very flat and repetitive. Felt more like a movie than a game.

Call of doodie:Finest Hour

Nowhere near as good as original.

Metal Arms:Glitch in the System

Overrated. Repetitive and clunky.

Beyond Good and Evil

Never interested me.

Freedom Fighters

Amazing. Truly one of the best games released this generation. I know of NO ONE that didn't find their run through this game to be anything short of awesome.

Kill Switch

Eh..fun for the first 20 minutes. After that, it becomes a slave to gimmick.

Oops..didn't respond in the wa you desired. :P Umm, get the Xbox version for all of them. Multi-platform games invariably fare worse on the PS2 -- because of laziness, primarily.
