I am 15 hours into the game, and I don't really get the combo system.

According to my combo section, I have done 2 combos out of 141 possible. That's not a lot.
I don't really get how to get the combos. Does it just randomly happen in battles? Is it a easier way to do it?

yeah, so how do I get a combo with a pine tree. It says it can get cut by a knife, so do I just choose pine tree card in battle, and then choose a knife in order to do a combo?

Card combos are a bit obtuse, but the cards themselves do give you hints.
They can be created on both offense or defense. But only those cards - you can't add any other cards to the combo.

But it doesn't help that the cards you're given in battle appear randomly, but hey, that's the nature of the beast regarding card games.

I've probably spent hours trying to make card combos. I've just discovered how to make level 2 yells (but I don't have the item that creates level 2 Aqua or Dark yells).

What also is a pain is you can only get one card a battle. A couple of times I've gotten two fairly difficult combo cards and had to choose.

appearently the name Baten Kaitos is of Arabic origin, and it translates to 'belly of a whale'.

The Japanese katakana on the title says it's directly pronounced, "Bah-ten Kai-toh-s"

Gotta play specific cards in specific order to create new Magnus.
Try.... Holy Grail + any of the Rice wines (hot, warm, whatever) = sacred wine. You can use this to revive fallen opponents. VERY Helpful. Also give decent amount of HP recovery for an easy-to-make Magnus.

Also, try using fire attacks with meat to make grilled versions of whatever you have... easy way to make new Magnus that last longer and give you more HP recovery.

Baten Kaitos is also the name of the constelation Zeta Cetus, which happens to be part of the whale constellation.

The hardest combo that I did was getting the pac man card combo. Not only do you have to have all the right fruits(assuming they haven't spoiled yet), but you have to use them in the right order to get the pacman card.
