Henry Cavill leaves the Witcher series.

Not sure if already posted.

Maybe Liam Hemsworth will be a great replacement choice.

Well I would say this short lived and mediocre Netflix series needs to come to an end. I love the books and games and the show does not live up to those. It had a lot of potential and Henry was great. But they didn't have enough Geralt in the show due to "reasons" and now this? Just end it.

Wait, they didn't replace him with a trans minority actor?

I'd be surprised if Henry left because of having a stable bigger gig (like coming back for multiple Superman movies). Dude is a fan of The Witcher, remember how excited he was when he got the gig? Well that's what Netflix treatment does to people.

I am more excited of not watching it after last season. With writers actively hating source material, why would I give the chance it again? Now season 4 without Cavill, better shut it down.

I didn't enjoy his Geralt (I'm not convinced Cavill can actually act), so I'd like to give Liam Hemsworth a shot, but I'm probably not touching that show again. The Witcher's main appeal to me is the quality dialogue and storytelling, and the Netflix adaptation was just so dumb.

Huh, not too surprising, hes a AAA big budget actor so I figure he wouldnt want to tie himself to an ongoing series for too long. Plus its a physically demanding role, I recall he already had one serious injury onset.

As long as Hemsworth does a good Doug Cockle impression like Caville, I dont see an issue. Not exactly a hard character to play.
Good news is that liam actually seems to be good at different accents unlike his brother chris.

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
I thought season 1 had its moments (actually really liked the three leads) but I found season 2 basically unwatchable. It was so poor I didn't even finish it.

i'll watch S3 but the show is basically dead now. Whatever ending S3 goes with then that's the end of the show as far as I'm concerned.

Henry is a huge fan of the games and i'm sure he could've done both Witcher + Superman. With reports that producers don't like the books/games then that says it all really... Can't blame him for leaving if they are not interesting in doing justice to the books or even the games.

As for the spin off show... yeah I ain't watching that either.

Netflix have fucked this up. Surprise surprise.

He wanted this role because he is a fan of the games. He said he was there as long as the show done the books/games justice. Seems he no longer feels that this is true and that's why he is out.

No wonder he wants to leave. What’s with adaptations hiring people who hate the source material?
Maybe the writers wanted to make comedy of serious scenes in the book a bit too much for his liking... 👀

Hissrich admits that when she first wrote the Roach death scene, her instinct was to puncture the moment with a bit of meta-comedy. Henry Cavill pushed for a more heartfelt moment, and eventually Hissrich caved — which she says was ultimately the right call.

“Henry was so unhappy with the line,” she recalls. “Finally I said, ‘You know what, you come up with something. I trust you, you know this material so well, you know the book so well, you don’t even have to pitch it to me.’ And he came back the next day with a beautiful speech that’s at the end of Sword of Destiny when Geralt is facing death and it’s such a pitch perfect moment.”

I can see how the later books become tricky to adapt and I can DEFINITELY see why a bunch of the Ciri storyline would have "non fans" amongst the writing team. Not to mention how little Yennifer has to play in a lot of it. So if they want to keep the three leads active and together it would have to change the story quite a bit.

I think they could wrap it up in a.season if they wanted, maybe 2. To not be able to get Cavill back for the conclusion tells me they have 2+ more seasons planned at least, or are going to do prequel stuff.

They had 7 seasons planned and Cavill was ready to commit to that, dude couldn't take the butchering of the source material anymore, plus a huge Superman check, easy math.

7 seasons is waaaaay too much for the source material IMHO. They could easily compress all the wandering around and Ciris near endless plotline down if they wanted.

that’s the problem with netflix, they pad their shows. lots of mediocre material drawn out, it sucks cause it’s a huge waste of people’s time. i’m looking at you unsolved mysteries reboot.

It was Netflix’s The Witcher: A Ciri and Yennefer Tale anyway.
Henry was probably getting less and less screen time.
That's book accurate though, there are entire stretches with no geralt. Hell, there isn't really any Witcher stuff at all by the end, even Geralt gives most of it up.

Lol, that is true about the new Unsolved Mysteries. The old show kept it moving with tons of segments and variety per episode. Some of the new stories are barely worthy of a segment, much less a dedicated episode.

On topic: I'm sure Henry is busy, but i'm sure he would have found the time if the whole production was better.

Agreed, long passages focus on the other characters at least up till book 5. I couldn’t make it through Tower of the Swallow. The show didn’t share the same weaving of Geralt into the narrative and felt dismissive of his necessity especially season 2.

Damn. It wasnt perfect but i really enjoyed the witcher for how campy it was. Reminded me of the xena and hercules days. Cavill also was actually a pretty solid geralt. Dunno if ill keep watching, but honestly im just happy for any fantasy show to be available these days, so we’ll see

At first I was hopeful that they will right the ship in season 3 but now not so much after reading and hearing of the reasons why Henry Cavill left. These writers/showrunners sound like hacks.

Here is a good summary video of the possible reasons why Henry Cavill left. Looks very plausible with interview quotes from Showrunners and Henry Cavill.
