Herlp me Rectify this

I'm taking this elective course called 'Music Appreciation'. Classes normally consist of the teacher playing a piece of music, and a class discussion about it. Today, he decided to perform three percussion pieces for us.

During the third piece, I fell asleep. I always fall asleep. Whenever I get five hours of sleep or less, its pretty much involuntary that I'll fall asleep if I'm not doing something physically engaging.

I was awakened to, "Rob!, Get out. Get out of the room. I've never been so fucking insulted in my life. Do not come to my recital tomorrow night" I get up, looking bewildered, and as I'm walking out, he says, "You could've at least tried to hide it. Do the music world a favor, and never set foot in a concert."

Awkward. Any thoughts on how I could rectify this? I'm probably going to e-mail him, but I don't want to give too many excuses. Should I tell him that I fall asleep to music every night, and that the music was soothing? Should I mention I got little sleep? I'm not good at dealing with authority figures. If he wasn't going to give me a grade, I'd just call him a pretentious jackass, and leave,

What i do in situations like this is own up to it. Like you said, don't make too many excuses, just apoligize for making him feel disrespected and say that you really do like his class. or something like that. i would also suggest saying that you would still like to atten the concert tomorrow night to show support, etc

Go to his office, offer a mea culpa - politely - and simply explain that you were up all night working on something (anything), and couldn't possibly have stayed awake if he was playing an electric guitar, let alone a violin.

Tell him to "Do the music world a favor and stop teaching." What kind of ass has a class devoted to talking about him playing music?

Haha, I always find it hilarious when my professors tell off students. However, in this case, I think he totally overreacted. Of course, since he's in authority, that doesn't matter. Bend over and take it.

I'm really bad at faking sincerity in person. He might see through my lie, or I may start to smile if it gets really awkward and serious. I like your excuse though.

I have class during the concert though. I'll own up to the fact I fell asleep, but I don't want to make it look like I chose to do so. I think I'll just say that I meant no disrespect in doing so.

Normally, he "plays" an mp3 of a musical performance and we discuss it. I worderd that wrong. This is the first time he actually played a piece. He's definitely an ass though.

yeah, you are going to want to do this in person.

Damn.

Show him some of the asses that was in the fap-0-licious thread. That would get any man into a good mood, but dont give it to him if he's gay, thats just gonna get you into more trouble :lol

Write a letter to him and apologize about your behaviour. tell him that it wont happen again. Im sure he will be kind enough to let you do the class. If you know you're gonna keep falling asleep though. If he's going to forgive you then you go and make the same mistake again, dont do it. Make sure that if you write him the letter, you actually mean what you are going to say.

a letter could work too.

or you can always threaten his life.

Ah, ok. He still sounds like an ass, though. You didn't cause a disturbance, you just fell asleep and he kicked you out. Write him a huge, rambling, insulting e-mail talking about how he's a hack, a poor teacher, and you're glad you won't be forced to listen to his ear piercing instrument smashing on stage tomorrow, then show up at his office like, "See? Now you've been more insulted. Aren't you glad I just fell asleep?" And yeah, tell him you didn't mean everything you said in the e-mail and you were just trying to make a point.

1) If you're going to apologize, do it in person. Some things are totally inappropriate to be done over email, and apologies are one of them.

2) Not being able to keep yourself awake, just because you're bored, is something that you will HAVE to learn to overcome. I'm sorry, but if you fall asleep at an a business presentation, you can prepare to get fired.

3) If you don't sincerely want to apologize -- even for just being rude -- then don't even bother, and take the consequences. Regardless of whether or not you feel like the class is meaningful to you, falling asleep during someone's live performance IS rude. At the very least, you ought to be willing to apologize for that part of the incident.
