Holy sh*t! (Quake Wars)

they have a preview of this in the just released PC Gamer magazine and all I can say is... WOW!

this is hands down my #1 most anticipated PC title. and man, it looks sooooo goooood!

btw... Quake 4 is not very demanding system wise. I can run it full graphics and get a locked 60fps (vsync on) with no slowdowns. but on BF2, i can't even run medium and maintain any kind of consistent framerate.

Hey, do you ever play ET anymore? Does Primer's server still exist? I stopped playing when I upgraded my PC and videocard because it had a problem with PunkBuster (short lag every so often), but I miss playing with you guys.

I do not play any more, however Primers is still going I believe. I keep getting e-mails from them when they have a Primer's night or whatever... one night every so often when the vets are supposed to come out and play at a specified time.

I've been too busy with the Xbox 360 to have time for PC games. If I do game on PC, it'll be for World of WarCraft. I'll definitely be playing the hell out of Quake Wars though, assuming my PC can run it.

Nice to see that, according to that article write-up, the medic class "lacks combat punch".

Day 1 purchase for me. Sad to see the RtCW element go (although we have the upcoming RtCW2 for that fix), and while I'm not overly excited about sci-fi fps games that will be a secondary concern for me so long as the gameplay style remains similar to Wolf:ET and it is balanced. The article makes it sound like that's the case, or pretty close. Multi-mission "campaigns". Let's be honest here - these are probably just standalone themed missions grouped together. Kind of like the two 3-map campaigns that come with ET that were broken up by public servers about a day after release. IMO, the next step up from basic campaign structure would be something like branching campaign missions depending on who wins previous missions and stuff. That would be awesome if they could do something like that, or at least make it possible for custom map-makers to implement. Each mission has capturable territory and ET-style objectives. Not too crazy about the vehicles, but once again I can live with them if there is balance.

I'm still curious about this "megatexture" thing. How the hell can they texture a whole map with one giant texture and keep performance up?

Enemy Territory is an amazing FPS, and legally 100% free. You'd be an idiot to avoid playing it.

So, uh, given that this is Splash Damage and all, I'm looking forward to it.

it's still the doom3 engine.

Kinda like how Source is the Quake engine?

Changes can be drastic.

I guess it is just me (well, I know it is in fact) but I always thought Enemy Territory (the free one) wasn't nearly as good as the RtcW multiplayer. It just felt different and more arcadey. I didn't like it for some reason. I love RtcW multi though... one of my favorites alltime.

that's a stupid comparison.

quake wars still looks like it's running on the Doom 3 engine.

I was exagerrating, of course, but when a developer rewrites a significant amount of an engine, and claims so, it's probably pretty damn different.

Battlefield 2 finally has some competition. As much as I am a modern/future military scenario fan (C&C rocks!) this Sci-Fi take looks much more enticing.

basically Battlefield in the Quake world.....

sounds like fun :D
If it plays anything like Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory it will be leagues beyond anything I've seen in Battlefield.

Not quite. See Battlefront 2. BF2 clones are likely to be just that. Clones. I will still enjoy and buy it if its good anyway.
The original Enemy Territory had a much different style of gameplay than Battlefield, and this looks to continue that play style. It's not going to be a clone just because they added vehicles. I do however fear that it will edge towards the Battlefield style of play with the addition of player controlled vehicles, which ultimately worries me. RtCW was structured and focused; if they can deliver that with vehicles I'm all set. If not, I'll wait until they (or someone) offers on-foot only missions.

As of right now, it looks to be more in the vein of Command and Conquer: Renegade. Hopefully it is as refined and intense as the original ET.

cant wait for this game, it looks awesome.

i needed those new scans (thanks). havent seen anything new on this game in a long time.

day 1.

according to that article, vehicles can be disabled by destroying wheels/tires or ammo packs. sounds like it might be a good way to balance out vehicle dominance. we'll see.

Holy fucking crap. This is probably the only time I haven't thought this engine looked awkward as hell. How are they even the same thing, christ. Amazing. This is why I love me visuals!
