and I don't mean wake up 45 minutes after it's started

the exam started at 10 am. its now 2 pm. i not only missed my test, but the class AFTER my test

im now in the process of sending a carefully constructed e-mail that somehow tries to justify me having a second chance. otherwise i lose 25%

i dont know how it happened. i figure i stumbled across the room to turn off the alarm and laid back down. i dont remember anything though.

*breaks into unsettling fit of laughter*

Without losing $300? Yes.

Plus, my time invested. I've worked hard in this course (existentialism). I'm sitting at an A-/A, I think, and I was so well prepared for today. In fact, that's why I had such trouble getting up. I was up until 5am studying.

Well best of luck. I know someone else who did something similar 2 weeks ago and missed a test. He said he was very ill apparently and was vomiting etc. as excuse.

But 2 days ago he did say he was leaving. I dont know if its connected...

I know a guy who slept through his final.

Meaning, he slept through the actual final. He got there, sat down, rest his head on the desk for a few seconds, but fell asleep, only to be woken up by the prof to get his blank copy. Poor bastard.

Nothing worse than missing an exam. I did this last week, but luckily it was just a retake and I hadnt done too bad the first time round. Good luck trying for a second chance though :lol

Hah, you've got to love that utter heart-dropping feeling you get when you wake up after a 'nap' only to see you're several hours late for something utterly important - be it work, a final, a class, Metroid Prime 2 launch, etc.

I was just STUNNED. At first I couldn't figure out where I was supposed to be. Then I did, and couldn't understand what the clock was telling me.

2:00?? But... how could that be? 2:00am, maybe??? But no, I went to bed at 5 am, so that wouldn't make any sense.

So it dawned on me. And I kind of just accepted my fate, still stunned, without getting upset or anything. I guess I've still got naive hope that the teacher will give me another chance. He's a great guy, but I understand that he'll want to keep things fair for other students. So I'm going to suggest that I do an additional paper on the subject.

I did that once. Ended up getting the right to make it up when I just told the teacher the honest truth. I stayed up late studying, fell alseep and missed the alarm. He liked my honesty and let me make it up.

Yeah, I know the feeling from that time I woke up at 10 instead of 7:30.

But then I realised it was only Saturday, and that Monday was a couple days away :p

yeah whenever I stay up really really late and have to be somewhere in the morning, I either

1) don't go to sleep at all
2) set 2 alarms. I set my regular alarm clock upside down on the table, so that when it goes off...i can't just "slam it off". I have to open my eyes and fumble around with it...giving my brain sometime to realize that I have to be awake.

My second alarm is onn my computer a couple of minutes later from the regular alarm with the sound on HIGH.

That way if for whatever reason the first alarm doesn't wake me, my computer's alarm sure will...and I have to get UP to turn that one off.

Thanks for the empathy, pal. :p

Here it is so far:
I slept in today. I stayed up way too late studying and actually ended up sleeping through my alarm. Or unconsciously turning it off. I can't remember.

I've got to plead with you to let me still do the exam. With partial marks removed (again), if it needs to be made fair. Though obviously this isn't the type of test where I can ask for the questions/answers (I don't think).

Now, if you think that's still unfair, what if I were to do an additional paper on Heidegger or something? Just to illustrate that I *do* know him very well.

Ultimately it is up to you, I know, but I'm desparate here not to lost that 25%.
Any suggestions?

I was going to tell you to offer up a paper but I see you've already thought of that. Missing your final in existentialism is funny though, it almost sounds like a punchline. sorry.

If the prof is nice, he might just add 25% of weight to the final for the class.

I've never overslept a final, BUT the night before a final I dreamed that i missed that very same final. It was a strange dream, trying to convince my prof to let me retake it, then watching simpsons with him, then going to another class and learn for 5 minutes only to realize "wait a second, I already had this final!" (wake up)

Missing an existentialism midterm because you subconciously walked across the room to turn off your alarm clock.

Isn't that the least bit funny?

Happened to me once too. I lied like a dog. Said I was feeling sick, went to the doctor and came away with a note that said I had an ear infection (!?!?) that caused mind-numbing headaches, hence the need to stay in bed rather than go to the exam. Worked just fine!

That happened to me once -- I just said I had a family emergency and asked someone to cover for me if the teacher wanted to verify my excuse. There's not much else they can say to that because your personal life should remain personal. They'd have to accomodate you -- unless, of course, they specified in the very beginning that missing class is entirely unacceptable without proof of absence via doctor's slip/official documentation. Even then, just make a doctor's visit :)

Hrm.. there was one time I fell asleep while IN a final. It was one of those days where I had 4 finals/midterms to take in one day, and I know our school allows you to shift test days if this is the case, but I was feeling zealous and wanted to get it over with. On my 3rd final, 20 minutes into my japanese examination, I knocked out for 40 minutes and no one realized it until my headed started bobbing back and forth. My friend laughed from across the table kicked me -- which shocked the heck out of me -- and I finished up the test with 20 minutes left of class. I was surprised my teacher didn't notice, but then again, when she sat in her little corner of the room, I'm sure she was probably sleeping too while correcting papers :p

You could get yourself a doctor's note - just say you're feeling extremely run down and don't know why.

I think that only works if you're Julianne Moore.

Please, someone, get this reference and restore my faith in humanity.

I did that earlier this year.
Had an exam at 10:00am. Crammed all night and went to sleep early in the morning.
When I woke up, I looked at the alarm clock and it read 9:50am. This is fine except for the fact that I lived 40mins from my school.

I was totally freaking out. I got dressed in about 4 seconds, scrambled outta my house, and did some Formula 1-like driving all the way to school. Ended up being only 35 minutes late and the prof gave me a little more time to finish things off. Phew.

I was late for work for the exact same reasons this past Saturday... it's not a good idea to be late when you work security and you're not releaving anyone. Luckily, it's the first time that has happened to me in over 4yrs on that site, so nothing came of it. I think I woke up and turned off the alarm and hit the sack again. Of course, the battery powered alarm failed the same night too. :X

The way I used to study was to sleep early, like around 11 or 12, and then wake up early in the morning like 4 or 5 to study up until the test. Much better than staying up super late and hoping that you being too tired doesn't keep you from waking up.

Best wishes.

I almost slept through my Control Systems Design final (my roommate, that bastard, told me that he'd wake me up if I didn't, and I trusted him) and ended up getting to the test about an hour late (the test was lengthy as hell and the time to complete it was 2 hours.) So I get there and the professor tells me: "Glad you could make it because I wasn't going to let you take it at any other time."

He did, however, give me about 15 more minutes at the end of the test. It ended up quite well. It was funny how everyone in the room (a lot of us in the class were friends) was relieved to see me get there all sweaty, panting, and writing the answers in the test like a madman (these were hard ass design problems.)

My studying techniques consist of paying close attention in class. And relaxing a lot before the test. I won't do well if I don't unwind and relax.

My psychology midterm is tomorrow. I can yell out during the exam, "Test day baby!!" and explain to my professor why I did it.

"Uhh, over the years, the sight of an exam suddenly became a conditioned stimulus that made me yell out my conditioned response? It used to be a NEUTRAL stimulus...way back in Kindergarten. Just mere QUESTIONS would make me yell that out" :lol

I have a psych midterm tomorrow...and have no plans of doing that whatsoever.

And fix desparate to desperate. But I guess it's too late now.

Anyway, if you're an A student and you were honest, I don't see it being a problem. I wouldn't worry too much unless he's just a complete dick.

Aww man Socreges-- and here I was gonna shoot you a PM to see how you ended up making out with that paper. Now I see that that's the least of your concerns. That sucks. :( Well, you had better pull this off somehow-- you owe me!!!1 :D

Seriously though, best of luck. :)

This really doesn't work for Math & Science related degrees. Unless you consider a passing grade 'doing well', in which case, yes, it is achievable. Or, you are a genius...

Edit: Heck, this probably doesn't work for a lot of courses that require tons of research.
