That's a really bad excuse. You can make a movie/TV show for kids that can be enjoyed by an older audience as well.

Hell, as a kid, I watched the movie a few times, but I didn't necessarily enjoy it. I just wanted to watch Power Rangers. I enjoyed the Turbo movie a lot more.
