How does the movie Angela's Ashes differ from the book?

I have to write an essay about this movie/book in school tomorrow... Basically, you have to compare and contrast a chosen movie/book from a list they provided... I chose Angela's Ashes, so now I need to do my essay on that.

Are the differences between the book and movie minimal, like the Harry Potter trilogy, or are there major differences I should know and discuss?

If you can, please help. :(

The movie was ok, the book was a lot better. There's a lot of symbolism left out of the movie and even a child of theirs if I'm not mistaken? But, uh...It's due tomorrow? And you didn't read the book? Did you at least watch the movie?

I'm watching it right now.

It's alright, though it's a bit too long for a movie that just describes the life of a poor Irish family.

I kind of wish I read the book, because I'm sure it's a lot better..

The differences are minimal. The book has a lot more of the same sort of events - his father getting drunk over and over, etc. Oh and the I think the book's written like a child wrote it, with no quotation marks or anything; the movie emulates it pretty well with the voice-over but not nearly as much. The book also goes into a lot more detail - you get his opinions and thoughts on everything. There were some weird little changes, like in one place Frankie's joking (when he keeps answering the lady back getting in the last word) which was meant to be done by one of the other biker boys; only minor things like that. If you've got any more specific questions I can probably answer them since I had to study the damn book twice (at two different schools).
