How good is Klonoa 2?

Seeing how some people mentioning it often when listing very good overlooked games for the PS2, I was wondering how good the game really is. IGN and GameSpot sure did like it, but on gamerankings it 'only' is on a 84 % level. Is it really a gem like ICO is, or just a very solid platformer, interesting for the fans of the genre only? How good is it in comparison to the well-known Sony franchises?

I'm asking this, because somebody offers me a PAL version, and those seem to be very rare.

Not that good. Like you said, it's a sold platformer. Nothing spectacular and definitely not some sort of masterpiece.

It did nothing for me. I was a fan of the original PSX Klonoa back in the day, but Klonoa 2 just bored me-- it might be because I'm tired of this type of game, but it seemed so same-old and uninteresting. I'm sure others will disagree, but that was my take on it.

Not as good as the first game, but still pretty great. I'd rank the Klonoa platformers like this...

01 Klonoa: Door to Phantomile (PS)
02 Klonoa 2: Dream Champ Tournament (GBA)
03 Klonoa: Empire of Dreams (GBA)
04 Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil (PS2)
05 Klonoa: Moonlight Museum (WS)

Its a good game and since they don't make many games with that kind of gameply on modern consoles it gets a lot of praise from old school gamers. If you like platforming you must have it.

it is a great game, but the gba version is not as good
ps2 version = 95% out of 100%
gba version = 50% out of 100% (may be is because of the 2d thing)

The gameplay is a bit shallow, but the graphics/art are quite cool! It's about the last platformer on home consoles. NiGHTs on Saturn was way better for a 2 1/2D style game.

I'd get it for a break from the mainstream stereo-type games of today.

Erm... the GBA "version" is a different game entirely. :/

As far as 2d gameplay goes, it's pretty solid fun. Good graphics too. I loved it, to be honest. I'm glad I still have it kicking around, think I'll plug it in.

I knew this guy who said he was a big fan of games (the only thing I ever saw him play was PS2 GTA3. That kind of guy, he trashed anything non-sony. Kinda lame). I said he would love it, but he never gave it a chance.

New breed.

I thought Klonoa 2 was great! A bit on the short side, but that's no reason to criticize. I had fun all the way through. I actually beat the game in a night, maybe about 4 hours or so. If you liked the PSX version, there's no reason not to play the PS2 sequel.
