i know there are about a gajillion reality tv shows on fox/abc/cbs/nbc, etc, but something put me over the top yesterday.

i was watching discovery channel or something and there was a reality show commercial called something like Finding Fara (fara faucet? whatever i dont know how to spell her name)

what the FUCK dude!

mark cuban, donald trump, rebel billionaire, gastineau girls, osbournes, survivor, home makeover, trading spouces, wife swap, fucking on and on and on

when is this shit going to end? i guess i can't complain too much, since unlike a great deal of americans i dont get into an uproar and ask for something to be banned when it offends me or i dislike it (i just ignore it), but at the sametime i am curious how long you people think this garbage is going to last

i hope this reality tv thing dies too. I cant believe people actually watch this crappy shit over shows like Angel and The Sheild.

How can anybody stomach the fakeness of these "reality" shows is beyond me.

Just don't watch TV. It's a lot easier than it sounds. MY TV set is used for DVDs & games only, and the only TV I ever even catch a glimpse of is whatever garbage they play at the gym or at bars.

iawtp, but I sub out "work" for "gym and bars", since we play stuff to get customers in there.

But it's odd... you really don't miss tv after awhile.

I'd watch The Apprentice over tripe like Buffy and Angel any day. But of course networks have gone overboard with reality TV just like they do with everything else that proves to be a success..

Reality tv shows cost like $3 to make. They are totally low risk/high reward for networks as opposed to a new sitcom or drama. As long as they are pulling in even average ratings, they aren't going anywhere.

Maybe it won't go away? Maybe it appeals enough to a particular human desire that a wealth of degenerates could sustain it forever?

I'm well beyond the point of caring now. I just avoid the shit like the plague and keep to my handful of select shows.

you probably have not seen an episode of buffy or angel if you think its just fluff or tripe.

Thanks to my brother, I've seen three seasons of Buffy and one of Angel. My feelings towards the shows are in no way unique.

If I had known what I helped start by watching the first couple of Survivor's, Big Brother's, and Who Wants to be a Millionaire, I would have never done it.

Network TV is broken right now.

I plan on watching Amazing Race 85 before I die.

As a child who was literally raised on television, I would have never thought I could survive a whole month without TV, but that's exactly what's been going on, and I can't say I miss it.

Almost everything on TV is pure shit, and reality programming is the main culprit. I honestly cannot understand how people can find any sort of enjoyment from watching human nature at its worst.

And for some reason, the ones that feature celebs get me the most. Yeah, its sad that they are loser who can't get out of the spotlight, but the folks who watch such crap as just perpetuating the circle.

same here, the only things i ever watch on TV are animated television shows (south park, family guy) or sports.

but the post wasn't how to avoid reality tv (its easy to do), i'm just wondering how long reality will last... i mean people have to get sick of this shit eventually don't they??

I'd watch a reality TV series about people killing each other!

Kinda like survivor... except more extreme and the prize is life!

It'll be gone once people stop watching it. It's really that simple.

Broadcast commercial television is garbage anyway. Aside from the Daily Show and Conan, I stick almost exclusively to the movie channels.

I see a lot of folks saying "when people stop watching it". Well, you're correct, but seeing how FUCKING DUMB most Amurricans are, I'm placing my bet on "never".

Being that absolutely all the television I watch is downloaded now, the only time I see reality television is when some girl I know is watching it, I like it at this point because I can mercilessly rag on it.

The dumbest one i have seen lately is "THE BIGGEST LOSER" where they get a bunch of fatties and see which team can lose the most weight. It's run by the aunt off sabrina (who is fat now) and they had some challenge where they had to move some donuts from 1 side of the room to the other using their mouths! No eating the donuts fatties! :lol

Reality TV will never go away. It is so cheap to produce that networks will never fully let it go.

will totally Facebook friend you! *giggle* *LOL*
Christ, reality TV shows have been around for way too damn long. This week on the Real World Vs. Road Rules Inferno v6.7, Tonya yells at Sue, then Sue calls Tonya a whore, then Tonya calls Sue a bitch, then they go back and forth for another hour while Johnny Mosely gets stoned in his trailer and wonders what the fuck happened with his life. Who the fuck can watch a show where people yell at each other a majority of the time? It's this stuff that makes you believe common sense no longer exists in the average american.

That's my feeling on this. I've been hoping that this train would crash just like the glut of trash talk shows did in the late 90's. But this stuff is too lucrative and think the voyuer aspect of it all is too compelling to repel more viewers than it already has. Cartoon Network, Comedy Central, and HBO have only channels I can tolerate in their entirety.

in a way you can blame SAG for all of it

When SAG was threatening to strike, networks were looking at reality shows as a way around the actors guild. Then they found out how cheap and successful they are and boom.

asking dangerous questions
The Contender is very good.
Survivor still entertains me, as does The Amazing Race.
The Apprentice is getting stale, fast - but still watchable.

....BRING BACK THE MOLE (hosted by Anderson Cooper). Best f*cking show ever.

Anyway, aside from all the Reality shows, all the crime dramas are starting to get to me as well. We need MORE sitcoms. Friends, Fraiser, and Seinfeld are missed dearly :(

I've stopped watching most broadcast TV channels because of this crap sometimes watch 60 minutes just to see any interesting stories. I'll now download my favorite shows like arrested development, 24, lost, original csi just to avoid the crappy commercials as well. If there are series I haven't watched I'll just rent the dvds. I stick to stuff like HBO, History Channel, National Geographic, CSPAN, CNN, IFC, AMC, etc.

most are complete shit, but amazing race is awesome. so is america's next top model.

they're entertaining for someone who likes to switch their brain off when they're watching tv - most times when i start a 'proper' series i end up giving up cos i miss too many episodes, and i have no fucking idea what's going on. i'd take these shows over something like 'buffy' or 'angel' any day - after hearing how awesome these shows were from a mate of mine who's obsessed, i borrowed the dvds and i couldn't sit through more than a few episodes. HIDEOUS. and what the fuck was with that musical episode? "i have a theory..." :lol
