Tekken for PSP has probably already been in development for a while. I wouldn't be surprised if this was unveiled in a short while (now that Tekken 5 is out) and then released as soon as this fall.
Er, you mean faux 3D? Why bother with that when DS can ouclass PSone? They could do a perfect port of PS1 Tekken 3 if they wanted. :/Miburou said:If the DS gets a Tekken, it will be in the vain of Tekken Advance, while a PSP Tekken will be more like TTT2,

however TTT on the PSP would be nearly as good

I actually doubt Tekken ever hits DS really, I think Namco's probably looking to split their fighting lines among the handhelds with Tekken going to PSP and SC going to DS. Also, Tekken Advance was outsourced to Eighting.

Well sure, but only in terms of aesthetic. In terms of gameplay, DS can do anything in Tekken 4-5.Miburou said:I don't doubt that the DS could pull off a near-perfect port of T3. What I meant, is that if the DS does get a Tekken game, it's going to be quite simplified compared to the current console version, while the PSP might get something that's only a small step down from what the console is getting.

DS seems more suited to last gen ports though (Tekken 1-3, VF1-2, DOA1, etc) while PSP should get stuff from this gen probably (Tekken 4-5, VF3-4, DOA2, etc). That's definitely a smoother fit.
Why not? Sure detail would suffer as they'd need to go with full 3D stages/bgs (as oppossed to to the flat field/parallax 2D bgs in the previous games) but it could still be done. Look at Erghiez for something comparable on PS1.Miburou said:I haven't played Tekken 5 beyond a couple of rounds in the arcade, but Tekken 4 has big stages with walls, trees, etc. that you can interact with, and I doubt a DS Tekken will be able that. Instead, it would probably go with the carousel-like levels found in Tekken 1-3.
Actually, SC2 is their best selling fighter this generation by a wide margin. 4.7M and still going. That's what going multiplatform gets you, just ask EA.Blackace said:Why would Namco want to take their flagship fighting game (sorry SC but Tekken is the one)
Well, it's not like Tekken is a gigantic arcade draw either... it's no Virtua Fighter. All in all, SC2 is Namco's most successful fighter then generation, with each installment selling more than the last. Tekken on the other hand has been in decline since Tekken 3 sales wise. Seeking out new fanbases might help that but Namco seems unwilling to bring the franchise to anyone who doesn't own a PS2. Their loss I guess. :/Blackace said:but it is not just consoles for Tekken... arcades...

I dunno, I think it'll definitely come to PSP.... I just wouldn't expect something like a Tekken 5 port. More likely, they'll go the Ridge Racers route and make a sort of a definitive series anthology/compilation up to that point.Blackace said:I don't exactly agree with that.... but oh well...I still think they won't port a version of Tekken to a handheld unless they can make it look perfect
