How long will it take...

... for GBA emu on PSP? :)

The GBA hardware is not very powerful (it has been running on PC for years and you don't even need much power to do so). There are no controller or screen issue, the PSP can handle it. I guess you just need to make it run off the memory card.

You can extend that question to other 8, 16 or 32-bit systems to be emulated on PSP.

Wow, that's an ugly avatar. Feel free to reign hell on mine now. :)

Buuut let's see. First you need to get it to run unsigned software, from a mem-card. 6 months. Then the 1337 h4xx0rz need to figure out the basic programming for the thing. 2-3 months. Then that info needs to be distributed to the likes of wich program Snes9x and such, and they in turn have to convert the program. So a year is my best guess.

Nonsense, my avatar is great.

It's actually TOO great:

"Avatar image size should not be greater than 90 pixels by 120 pixels, and no greater than 150k in size."

;)

By god he's right!

Edit: No, wait. It somehow turns into 144 pixels high when he has it as an avatar.

Avatars automatically resize the width to 90 pixels, so it messes up your height. Add some faux padding to the left and right side to avoid the problem.

The forum can add some proper scaling to solve the problem at the source. I'm followed the instructions to the letter and didn't exceed the limits. Not my problem then.

Now back to the issue at hand. Emulation!

Yeah, what JackFrost said. It will make your avatar look sharper as well, so it's a win-win situation!

And about the actual topic...it will probably only be a matter of time before we see the first GBA emulator. People have even tried to emulate GBA on GP32, but I think the low amount of RAM made it hard.

I wonder how "underground" PSP will become though...how much of a protection Sony will add when using memory sticks. But it definitely has potential for lots of emulators. That's one of the main draws about the PSP for me.

Why don't you emulate your goddamn avatar down to size, sir!

EDIT: I look forward to a thriving emulation scene and inexpensive 2 GB Memory Stick around Fall 2006. YEAH!

Is it yet known whether PSP recognizes storage media (eg., thumb drives or compact harddrives) from the USB port?

Regarding PSP piracy, if every PSP game fills the UMD completely (by using dummy data), then it's going to be very hard to run any pirated copies off even the biggest memory stick.

I don't understand...why wouldn't it be possible for the Pir8s to release a ripped version (simply removing the dummy data)?
