How many NeoGAFians are impacted by the Xbox / GamePass price hikes?

Were you personally impacted by the console and GamePass price hikes?

  • Definitely. I have to reconsider if I'm going to give Xbox my money.

  • Moderately. It's annoying but I still feel Xbox and GamePass have value for me.

  • Minimally. I'm less interested in Xbox hardware & GamePass now.

  • No. I wasn't expecting to spend money on Xbox for a while.

Curious to hear how NeoGAF was impacted by the latest Xbox price increases.

Personally, I feel it's an interesting industry story but I haven't supported, nor did I plan to support, Xbox for a while now. I'm nonplussed.

I'm subbed until February 26, the price rise in the uk is to £22.99 a month, but I get Fortnite Crew which I was paying for separately anyway, so it's 12.99 a month, for that price i'll continue to sub for now as my Daughter's primary console is still her Series X.

Once PS6/NextXbox launch I'll move her to PlayStation and we won't have Gamepass any longer.

I don't see how anyone in their right mind can play enough games to justify 30 dollars a month for a subscription service. Most games nowadays take like 40 hrs unless you're just rushing the crap of outta them, so how can you possibly consume enough games for the price tag to make sense. I'm playing persona 3 remake right now and I won't finish it for weeks or maybe months probably and I don't rush my games meaning a subscription service would never make any sense for me. Plus I love owning my games and I buy games on discount nonstop.

I mean I've been a GPU subscriber since day one and I am now done with the service.

Also done with Xbox hardware after buying every Xbox since the OG.

Mark me as "definitely impacted".

Voted "definitely impacted". As I mentioned in other threads, my current Game Pass Ultimate stack ends on 02 December.

I was already waffling on whether or not to maintain the subscription at $20 a month. The value was still there for me even at that point but, with the cost of literally everything going up, $20 a month on an entertainment subscription (any entertainment subscription) is an increasingly hard ask. Doable, but tight.

$30 is a guaranteed cancel. As long as I can find gray market 90 day Game Pass Core/Essential keys for around $10 less than retail, that's where I'll stay, if I stay at all. With friends unsubscribing, my need for online play on Xbox is rapidly tanking.

I went 14 years with the basic Xbox Live Gold sub before they created Game Pass, I can go back to that level and be just fine. The bigger issue is now I'm losing interest in investing anything at all into the Xbox platform. Prior to this I had already decided not to buy any digital games on Xbox simply because the future of the hardware is up in the air and I'm wary about buying digital licenses that may be stuck in limbo later. I'm not seeing the point of buying any new physical games on the platform either. They're going to lose their value a hell of a lot quicker on a dying brand.

Kind of...

I don't like the price increase to 16 but I also don't like spending 70 on MS games because most are trash...I'll probably let my sub lapse and renew if they drop something interesting.

0 here

I have an Xbox One X and some games, but not a series and no GP (I have had GP in the past of course)
I mainly use Steam and PS5 (since I got a used slim for $280 used is really the only reason I got one)

I do expect I will get a SX one day used sometime, because its BC powerhouse for sure!

I'm impacted for the better. I quit the subscriptions years ago because I prefer to choose my own games.

PlayStation plus is worse though. They really choose awful games for their subscription and I hate contributing towards games I hate.

Love my Series X, it's the best hardware they've ever had imo, but to be perfectly honest, I haven't bought anything on Xbox lately other than some super cheap digital games here and there. I used to subscribe to GPU, but not for a long time now. I mostly just play free Halo Infinite multiplayer on the system.

I was using PC Gamepass but recently paused my subscription for BF6. I was going re-subscribe but I don't think it will be worth it for me now. I will just buy COD and or other Microsoft games directly when on sale.

I recently let mine lapse and decided to only sub on months that had something I wanted to play. Since unsubscribing I have not really missed it, so this move has pushed me to just go ahead and buy games. It seems like Game Pass is becoming less stable.

Stands up* "Hi, my name is Mr Reason, and I too have recently been effected by Xbox 's price increase of GamePass"

Edit: some poll choices are missing I see. "This change barely effects me, so I'm going to gather all Xbox related wares from around my neighborhood and throw them into a fucking pit of fire!"

No real effect for me until 10/2028.

Only immediate impact so far is that when I open the Gamepass app now, I have to see Skull and Bones on there.

I gave up on gamepass years ago. The launcher is dog shit, and I would rather own games.

When it was like $7 a month it was cool as a way to see if I liked a game enough to buy it.

I used to love GP and had been a subscriber since 2017. I quit at the beginning of the year and was considering coming back for high season but it's not happening.

I've always loved Xbox but it's clearly not the same brand I used to love.

Did buy gamepass ultimate with reward points. Stacked it until december 2026. Guess when this runs out I'm done with game pass.

This is a shit poll.

How about a "No" choice that is "No, I'm still maintaining my Gampass subscription & don't care about the price hike" instead of the only No choice being "not spending money on Xbox"

I'm paid through until 2029, so I'm not gonna be impacted for a while.

Series X owner since June. I had already bought over 100 notable Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One backwards compatible games on sale throughout the years, prior to even owning the hardware to play them.

So I have my library and no desire to play online or anything new that's available on Game Pass. I remain unaffected, thank god.

I am the type of person who always had gamepass. Even if I was busy that month and couldn't play much I would just leave the subscription going.

But now... 27 euro a month or 300 euro odd a year? It's getting real pricey. Am considering just dropping off and on when ever there are good games to play. Might even get a deal like that 1 euro gamepass thing they used to do too.

Poll options are shit

None of the recent moves impact me. I already have a Series X that I use for current gen games and the tremendous BC catalog.

Any plans to buy future hardware is dependent on price, features and the overall state of the ecosystem.

Still keeping PC Game Pass for now. I get my value out of "trying out games". If they phase that out, I'm 100% done with them.

Since I have a portable SteamOS console and prefer Steam, in general, I usually buy the games that I enjoyed or that I want to support.

None my prepaid ultimate is still active and I still buy games. When it's up we'll see probably still buy some from CD keys. I'm already paying around $30 for both HBO and Netflix together in my house.

The 4 or 5 bucks price increase definitely sucks but I will probably stay subscribed for now. Generally I get a slew of new games free from Epic over Xmas, and might well put it in hold after that like I did last year.

My account is 4 yrs old. Am still paying equivalent of $15, when that was GPU price.

Am not expecting price to rise. If anything, it has increased its value and made me more invested in ecosystem, if iam still paying that old price next month.

Wacky poll options.

I'm subbed until August 2027. I won't pay $30 a month after that. But that's a long way off.

Sold my Series X a while back since I've moved to PC. I'm interested in the rumors of the Windows based PC console hybrid…but it all depends on the execution.

I still have the old "Game Pass for Console" tier (Full catalog, day-one games, no online) and thanks to regional pricing, it only costs me US$6.
As long as Microsoft doesn't take that away, I'll stay subscribed.

Next to non-existent here. The last time I signed up was for doom the dark ages but i still had a free month code laying around so i used that instead of paying.

I'm sure as fuck not spending half the price of a game to play it for only a month going forward.

i've only got 2 games on my wish list, starfield & s.t.a.l.k.e.r. 2, both of which i've played, & it's just as likely they'll both be on ps5 (s.t.a.l.k.e.r. 2 already is) by the time I get around to buying them. otherwise, i've gone through the game pass catalog, & i've grabbed all the oldies i'll ever want to replay, so i'm basically pretty much done with xbox, purchase-wise...
