I guess back from Windows 95 days, I always had this weird habit of closing programs.
That changed when I switched to Mac OS X as my primary OS. But I still closed applications at the over five mark.
It really changed when I got a SSD and having many programs open without much issues. Plus RAM upgrades.
But whenever I Alt-Tab, seeing all those icons still drives me crazy, even though performance isn't affected.
Right now I have open:

Right now I have open:
- iMessage
- Calendar
- iTunes
- Spotify
- A todo list app
- Word
- A Twitter client. I hate the site itself, but clients are better.
- Text Edit--The Mac's Notepad
- An RSS Reader
- The Mac App Store
- Another standalone writing program
- Kindle
- Apple Mail
- Safari (3 tabs)
