How to sell something on ebay

So, I want to sell my PSP, its used, but there is nothing wrong with it... I just want the cash to get something else. Anyway, how do I sell it and get the maximum bids possible... I know a lot of people are shaky when buying from new sellers, how do I put them at ease. Also, how much shipping should I charge.

Any tips would be great!

Charge actual shipping, plus your packing material costs. Don't use the shipping cost to gouge.

Just start the bidding at the lowest you are willing to accept. Don't bother with a Reserve price. Take lots of pictures of the ACTUAL item in hand, don't use only stock photos if you can help it. LOTS of scams using PSPs as bait, so showing you have the actual unit will help.

Honest and in depth descriptions. Detail how you used it, where, how you took care of it. Lots of good pics. Honesty and clairty.

Your item will likely sell for a lot less since you're a total new seller and don't have any feedback yet. People are unlikely willing to fork out big bucks on a more expensive item like a PSP.

Having actual images will help with that A LOT though. It's the 0 feedback sellers who use Stock images only that are more suspicious.

Yeah feedback isn't too big an issue if you have lots of pictures. Your own pictures, huge description, etc.. Basically anything to make you look valid, because there's so many scams on eBay and you don't want to be assumed to be one!

In a related question how would I calculate the shipping on something I want to sell. Do I take the item to UPS or Puroltor and have them work out rate to cover say, the rest of Canada or the entire US before I list, or do I wait for someone to win the item and then get a shipping cost for that destination?

Good question, how do I know how much shipping is?

I've been meaning to ask this question of the ebayers here for a while. Is it difficult to set up paypal for you to be able to accept payments through them? What are the specifics, like does the money go to your bank account, a credit card, or to your paypal account.

What are the best shipping methods (ie which carrier and what type of delivery), do you recommend insurance for most everything or just for higher dollar items, and where do you purchase the shipping items.

Also, which shipping materials are best for which items, such as what is best for psx games, double case psx games, dvd game cases, video game strategy guides (I have a few valuable ones), and miscellaneous gaming booty.

Some have mentioned the importance of using your own pictures in your listing, so could you tell me specific tips on getting my digital camera pics on ebay. Any tips on taking good pictures of the backs of cds would be appreciated too, so that I can accurately show the condition of black backed psx games.

Any and all help would be greatly appeciated.

Paypal is easy to setup. Just signup at the website and that's pretty much it.

For shipping I always go with FedEx, or you could just use domestic (i.e. Canada Post or USPS). I hate UPS because of their hidden brokerage fees and all around shit service.

As for shipping materials, I really wouldn't know :P

Hm and for pics, I hope you have a decent camera, and learn the macro mode for up close shots. Hold it steady or use a tripod so you don't have to rely on the flash for clearer shots of the backs of CDs...actually, maybe the flash would be better to expose any scratches, etc., or lack thereof.

Finally, find a host for your images and use the HTML code they spit out at you (or, if you know HTML, code your description yourself). eBay allows one free picture, but no more so it's way better to just do the pics yourself.

Thankey, miyuru. I do think I'll go with FedEx, since I believe you have to sign for their deliveries, and UPS leaves packages on doorsteps for anyone to come and steal.

My digital camera is an Olympus Camedia D-575 Zoom with a macro mode and option of flash or no flash. I have no tripod, but I'll try and experiment for the best method.
As you can see from my lack of avatar, I'm in need of a good host, one that is user friendly for noobs like me. Which free or cheap hosts would you recommend?

:lol I've had the exact opposite experience with UPS/FedEx. UPS ALWAYS needs me to sign. I've even been home and they'll just leave a note, IDIOTS. Like, what gives?

Everyone I've shipped to has always been fine with FedEx as well too, so it's all good. But yeah who knows. Watch out for UPS's hidden brokerage fees too, they're outrageous.

Err as for hosts, I don't know really since imageshack is the shits apparently :lol Just google it and there'll be a million free hosts.

I would pack everything you are selling and weight it, then go to a few websites like USPS.com and calculate shipping. Make sure you calcualte in price of packaging or anything like that. You aren't trying to make a killing on shipping, but you don't want to come out under either.

As far as a description, use frontpage or any quick and easy webpage developing software. Even if you have no clue with html you can make a nice looking description for your auction.

What free webpage software can I use, I use open office and not MS

I made a HTML that I hope is good enough for the auction. Please check it out by clicking HERE and downloading the HTML so I know if it's ok.

Thanks for the help guys

Probably too late now, but what firmware version is the PSP? If 1.50 then that's well worth making a big thing of.

Edit: Duh. Or perhaps not, given the 2.0 to 1.5 downgrader. :)

Do not try to mention anything about modding or anything illegal or else it will get shut down. Ebay closed my auctions twice when unloading the Freeloader GC disc and thats just a region free disc.

Take a picture, don't write in caps, bold it if you'd like, take good pictures, and offer reasonable shipping (aka roughly the cost of what it is, not trying to fuck the seller in the ass with outrageous costs). Probably get them a tracking number too. Send your shit right away as soon as you get the money to get some good feedback. Anything less than a 99% it seems and you're fucked. I personally don't buy from anyone if their feedback is less than 98-99%.

Paypal of course but be warned. They will take a little bit out. I sold an item for $215 and Paypal took a $6 cut. So don't expect to get 100% back but its still a pittance compared to the whole price.

P.S. Lower your bid. I'd start the thing off at $100. Don't worry, it will shoot up past $200 with no problem, even if it the last couple hours before it closes.
