Howard Stern moves to satellite radio

Status
Not open for further replies.
He announced today that he's moving to Sirius when his contract with Viacom ends (15 months). He signed a 5 year contract. It will be on a basic channel and not cost anything extra.

He said his moving is a direct result of the current administration and the religious right putting pressure on him and making him miserable.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
didn't he make fun of Opie and Anthony for being on satellite? Or was that Don and Mike that fueded with them?

I don't know if Howard ever laughed at O & A being going to XM but I know Don and Mike did (and still do).

Oh, and they all hate each other with a passion.

Yeah, shock jocks all hate each other. They each think they invented everything.

Don & Mike > Stern, though.

What will be bitch about when he goes to Satellite?

His main sthick is bitching about Clear Channel and being sensored by Tom/Dead Air Dave.

Howard's fallen so much since Jackie left. And I like Artie. He should just wrap it up when his radio contract is over.

Howard said he's bringing other radio shows with him. Shows he said he has bad blood with.

Could he mean Don and Mike?

That'd be so fucking weird if that were the case.

I love Howard but as many of you probably know. he was off the air for awhile in Orlando. His show came back to town when he returned/added 8 other markets while I was down for the summer and his incessant bitching about whatever made it so difficult to listen to. His show is just not what it used to be.

It wouldn't surprise me. Don & Mike get kicked off the radio every other week for something Mike says.

Howard and those guys don't really like each other, but they coexist and respect each other, which is more than what you can say about Opie & Anthony. There you saw their hate for each other escalate on-air.

All of the Howard/Don & Mike problems usually are handled through management. You'll hear the two shows bitch at individual station managers and it trickles back down from there.

Well, there goes XM's uncontested #1 position... I imagine Sirius will take the lead.

Well XM still has more deals with manufacturers to install indash systems... but this certainly isn't gonna help them.

NEW YORK - Top-ranked shock jock Howard Stern says he is leaving Infinity Broadcasting Corp. to join Sirius satellite radio, beginning in January 2006, where he'll get the national audience he has coveted.

Stern announced Wednesday that he has signed a five-year, multimillion dollar contract with Sirius, a national distributor of commericial-free music and sport programming. Stern will be heard in every market across the country, according to a joint statement from Stern and Sirius.

Stern's show corners the radio market among males 18-49 years of age and ranks No. 1 in many of the 46 major markets where his show is broadcast.

"It has been my dream to have the top-rated show in radio since I was five years old," Stern said in a statement. "Sirius — the future of radio _will take this dream to a whole new level as I bring my fans my show my way. It will be the best radio they will ever hear."

Sirius CEO Joseph P. Clayton said, "Signing Howard Stern is, without a doubt, the most exciting and transformational event in the history of radio.

"He is an entertainment force of unprecedented recognition and popularity in the broadcast world, who is capable of changing the face of satellite radio and generating huge numbers of subscribers for Sirius."

A call to Infinity for comment was not immediately returned.

Sirius said Stern will be heard in every market across the country.

Stern has fought to keep his show on the air in some conventional markets.

Earlier this year, Clear Channel Communications dropped Stern from the six markets, including San Diego and Pittsburgh, after complaints from federal regulators. Stern's show often features sexually explicit remarks and off-color humor. In June, Stern announced his show would go on the air in nine new markets owned by Infinity, including four where Clear Channel stations dropped it.

Sirius reaches more than 10 million DISH Network satellite TV and Sirius Satellite Radio subscribers nationwide, providing listeners with over 120 channels of commercial-free music, sports, information and entertainment.

Infinity, a subsidiary of Viacom Inc., has about 185 stations in 40 U.S. markets, according to Hoovers.com.

For the record Sirius claims about 600,000 users, XM claims about 2,500,000 users. So both are still in their infancy. That Sirius number of course is excluding the fact that Sirius provides music for DISH Network music channels with that added they are able to claim over 10,000, 000 listeners... Sirius music on Dish Network is only available in certain subscription packs so I'd guess DISH is kicking back cash to Sirius for that deal.

1. What is SIRIUS?
SIRIUS is a service offering over 120 channels of satellite radio featuring digital-quality music, sports, news and entertainment programming when and where you want it. We use three satellites orbiting directly over the United States to broadcast over 120 channels of satellite radio to listeners throughout the continental US.

I think I'll talk to the missus tonight about investing in Sirius.

I heard it mentioned on the radio that the stock is already up 20-30%...

Last Trade: 3.88
Trade Time: 10:42AM ET
Change: Up 0.53 (15.82%)

Still an easy price to get in to.

I miss Kramer and Twitch/Keith and Tony.

;_;

Anyone who listens to talk radio in MI last year might remember them. They moved to Orlando O-Rock and apparently have since moved again.

Howard Stern isn't funny. He's the has been king of all media and why can't he just retire?

Is the ability to say 'fuck' and 'cunt' on the air really going to make his show a lot better? Give me a fucking break Howard.

Ron and Fez baby!!! Glad I'm in the underground and still can hear them in NYC.

Stern has fallen ever since he got divorced. O&A I have to say did the most unforgettable moment in the last 5 years when they made Stalker Patty leave the studio and had a guy go down with her and rip her wig off her head. The guy ran back to the building with wig in hand, while you heard Patty screaming and crying in agony because she was on the street bald and embarrassed.

:(
:D:D:D:D :( awwww...I felt so bad for her, but it was funny afterwards.

Kieth and Tony as they were called in Orlando. Kramer and Twitch as they were called in MI never had any problems with Howard Stern. They rarely expressed any feelings or conflicts with them, they weren't syndicated. They did however say one time that they didn't think he's funny.

They wouldn't say anything worse than that... they were being broadcast on the same station.

Wrong....best moment in radio in the last 5 years:

Bababooie Love tape

PS saying is howard isnt as good since the divorce is so last year. Everybody who listens knows that he is better now . :D

Ohhhh Debbie...

Kramer and Twitch were okay, but I never got into them that much. And I think moving them to nights really killed them in MI. I liked the couple of times I heard them talking about video games, though.

My brother won a copy of Hitman 2: Silent Assassin when they were playing Beat the Cock... before the program director put a stop to that game. ;_;

I was allowed to listen to my radio in class when they were on mid-days. I loved Kramers Mr. Traffic persona.

I just loved how playful and relaxed the show was.

The O&A channel on XM is a channel you have to pay extra for it's not part of the regular subscription... when I heard that the other day while I was flipping channel on my XM receiver I was like oh well I'll never hear them....

Since I have dish network and get the sirius channels does that mean I'll get Stern at home? I hope so. That way I just need to get a system for my car and I'm good to go. I could even use my DVR to record the shows. That would be great.

I doubt it... You only get the Sirius music channels through the Dish Network right?

No i meant the bababooie tape, that happened within the last 5 years....i think. If not then the debbie tape takes the spot.

btw

Between Stern and NFL, Sirius is going to smash XM Radio. I wonder if they'll merge or something eventually, because the two won't be able to compete for the same demographic eventually.

That High Pitch prank call to Eric the Midget is funny as hell. Hell, anything with Eric the Midget is funny now that they have him pegged as evil.

Wait, you have to pay the monthly amount and then pay more for O&A????

What is the pricing structure?

Well you have the monthly fee with I think is $9.99(I pay quarterly so I forget), and then there are some premium channels that you can pay extra for, another like $1.99 a month IIRC, but the only two premium channels right now are High Voltage(which has the O&A show on it) and the Playboy channel($2.99 a month more). Why the hell would I want a playboy radio channel?

IAWTP, who are all these other hacks/wannabes? :lol

Everyone says Stern hasn't been the same since his divorce, and the people prior to that says things haven't been the same since the days of Billy West, Jackie Martling etc etc.

Just heard Don and Mike the Radio gods on yesterday for the first time after Howard and i must say they rock with all intensity and they dont even need pranks. I'm kind of glad Howard moved onto sat at least cause that means he can get back some of his luster he lost from having the FCC down his throat.

Clear Channel sucks (they made my local morning show suck by making them not be as outrageous as they once were) INfinity ate up one of the morning show's people and now he gets his own show before Howard stern thats going national woot.

Ron and Fez are nothing like Stern or any other talk shows for that matter, they also have no beef with Stern. Anyone who listened to them would know that. Ron and Fez treat their femal guests with class (well the hot ones) and never make them do anything they don't want. They never claimed to invent anything, and they aren't whiny bitches. They are original and are have been consistently funny for as long as I can remember. Well I think they have actually gotten funnier.

Ron and Fez are not only the best talk radio show, but the best show of anything ever. Everyone should check them out. They grow on you though, so give them a chance.

I love Don and Mike... of course the show is cleaned up now but they still have some really funny stuff... and sometimes it's even just the regular conversations between the two of them that are hilarious... along with Buzz(sp?) and company.
