First tragedy, then farce.
Mobo - Asus A8v Deluxe
AMD Athlon 64 3400+
Corsair Value Select DDR 400 2x512MB
8x AGP GForce 6800 GT 256 MB

Ive got a mid-tower, some cooling components, HD, DVD burner etc. picked out as well and can build the whole system for around 1200 which would include a low end flat screen monitor my dad wants (he has a better one, but he wants a flat one).

The other components are being salvaged from a computer that allready has them.. how well do you think this rig would run something like Doom 3 or Half-Life 2? How much of a boost is a 6800 GT over a 6600 GT? Is it worth the extra cash?

I know I had a thread like this last night, but is got hijacked and no one was actually helping me anymore :(

seems good, i have the same mobo, same ammount of ram, and equal graphics card, and i run HL2 with everything on high, 8x AA, etc. Doom 3 should be fine as well.

edit: the deluxe version of the AV8 has barely any noticable difference preformance wise than the normal version.

yeah, but tigerdirect is running a combo deal with a decent mid-tower, cooling fan, CPU and that mobo for 300 bucks. It also comes with some shitty speakers and a keyboard mouse I wont use, but even discounting those it saves me about 100 bucks.

rest assured the 6800 GT is a large step up, however if this PC won't often be used for gaming then you might as well save the money and get a 6600 GT.
