Hunter x Hunter serialization resumes in 3 days!

New chapter coming in 3 days!

Exciting stuff. Togashi's cranked out about 20 chapters so far, with a goal of 10 more by the end of the year. Apparently the 30 chapters that will get released during this serialization were all storyboarded back in 2018, where he claimed to have reached "a good stopping point."

30 chapters is about 3 volumes worth of material, and we're already about 5 volumes into the current arc. I'm thinking we may see the end of the Succession War arc and the beginning of the Dark Continent arc.

Scorecard: These are the first chapters released in almost two years (Viz's website says 12/25/22). Before that batch of 10 chapters the last batches, also in groups of 10, came out in 2018 (per hiatus x hiatus).

I did briskly examine chapter 400. Not quite as text-heavy as the last time I'd looked at it but still pretty dense. Art is better than I would have anticipated post-crisis Togashi being able to draw. Props.

Maybe with with I'll find the motivation to catch up. I kinda lost interest during the new arc.
Are they still on the ship? And is every chapter still walls of text explaining convoluted plans and powers and Kurapika going "I know that he knows that I know that she knows that I know that we know that he knows?".

Yeah they're still on the ship. Probably for the forseeable future, and there will likely be more walls of text tbh.

Personally I'm loving it, but don't force yourself if you're not feeling it. The exposition in this arc puts Chimera Ant to shame, and Togashi said something along the lines of wanting this arc to have the largest cast of characters. So that means having to develop each character.

I’ve not read the HxH manga, only watched some of the anime, but Berserk was well known for spending a long time with the characters on a boat which only became longer due to the slow release of chapters. The fact that Hunter x Hunter, an even more slow release manga, has a similar long time of the characters on a boat is fucking hilarious.

Togashi and Miura were friends too BUT the difference is when they were on the boat in Berserk it was fucking boring and aimless. It's just a galleon, in HxH there's an entire civilization on this massive ship and there's multiple factions warring with each other. It's a very dense read and Togashi MIGHT be going for the record of most characters introduced in a single arc.

I stopped keeping up with it early on in the arc and read it all from the start of the arc and honestly think it was great. Sure there's some parts where it's not even a fucking comic but Togashi gets the pass every time.

Yeah, we're getting a lot of setup for a lot of payoff on the boat in HxH, such as
the origins of the Phantom Troupe and Hisoka hunting all of the members, Kurapika's origins and his showdown with Chrollo/reclaiming the eyes.

New chapter just dropped a few minutes ago. Walls of text aplenty.

Do we actually get to see Gon again? I don't think he's made an appearance in manga in over 10 years.

Yeah it's been over a decade now since Gon has been in the story lol. He still has to meet Gyro at some point.

Not enough material and by the time there will be 2011 will be 20 years old or more.
Adding onto this, there's only been about 5 volumes worth of new material from where the anime ended. For reference, the Hunter Exam and Zoldyck arcs combined were 5 volumes, and translated to about 24 episodes in the anime (26 technically, minus 2 recaps).

So in addition to there only being enough material for a single season, there's also currently no good stopping point in the current arc. That might change with these 30 new chapters though.

what are the opinions on the new chapter?
I'm waiting for some to come out before reading HxH again
I thought it was really good. We got a new plot twist right off the bat. It was also very text-heavy, which I don't mind, but some people do. New chapters will come out every Sunday.

I'd also highly recommend a re-read starting at volume 32ish (where the anime ended) before getting into these new chapters. I read the latest one without doing a re-read, and I could barely remember any of the characters shown or mentioned. It's GoT levels of complicated.
