Anyone within the reach of this post to the north, east or west of Louisiana I need your help. I am frequently talking to people fleeing from New Orleans who are trying to find places to go at this point and they are having a very hard time getting information and getting through to hotels and the like. If you know of any hotels with vacancies, shelters in baton rouge or further, gas stations with gas or have any information that might assist residents fleeing from New Orleans or ANY coastal area - please give me a hand and post what you know.

Come to Houston. There's plenty of left over hotels from the Superbowl.

Watching the news last night, I heard they're telling evacuees to head for Houston or even Austin.

Anything west/northwest of New Orleans is safer. Whatever you do don't go east, as the area may be 12 feet underwater by the time the storm breaks ashore. It's probably a bit of a drive, but something with higher elevation like Mansfield or Winfield.

Yeah, the only problem now is getting them there. People who left at 8PM last night are just NOW reaching the outskirts of Baton Rouge (normally a 1:30 drive if you're driving slow) Clearly, the hurricane evacuation is fubar'd. Trying to just get people in something somewhere at this point because the chances of getting much further are slim and none.

I heard this morning that New Orleans might possibly be totally submerged once this thing hits.

Anyway, if you want to come up as far north as Kentucky, we have plenty of empty hotels. ^-^
