I am optimistic, very optimistic when I see the next generations.

Don´t hit me for my bad english plase
The reasons are:

-Online gaming for the 3 consoles. This is like the 3D, the first 3D console games appeared in the 16 bits but the great boom was in the 32/64 bits generation.

-Gamecube, PS2 and Xbox has better games library than N64, PSone and Dreamcast. If the tendency goes up we will have a new golden era of the videogames, better than any other past era.

-Nintendo wants to expands gaming, this is more players and more genres, this is good for all of us.

-Xbox 360 will be the new Genesis.

-PS3 will be like PS2 and PSone, great console, great catalogue.

-For me PSP and DS are the first consoles of the new generations, one is expanding the portable market with new ideas the other is expanding the same market with power that couldn´t be imagined few years ago.

Perhaps I am an idiot, but the 128 bits generation is great and better than the 16 bits generation.

Videogame crisis? Stop talking about the videogame crisis, games are more awesome every day.

I am not really sure that this generation has a better catalogue than the previous one...
Mario 64, Goldeneye, Zelda, FF, Resident Evil, Shenmue, Metal Gear Solid...
A lot of classics released the previous generation.
And my opinion is the same with the 16-bit consoles...

The best machnie ever for me was the Snes... ;)

Nostalgia sucks, is a form of reality and memories distortion.

I'm not optimistic about the next generation.

Almost everything we've seen is a game that could have been done on current generation consoles with graphical and audio downgrades.

The number of sequels continues to increase and the time between them continues to decrease. Not to mention knockoff games.

The only new things we've heard of are Eyedentify and the Revolution tech demos. And it's yet to be seen if the Revolution controller can be successfully used for something deeper than EyeToy-style minigames.

Downloads of classic and indie games are nice, but that's just a bonus.

They don't.
And by the way: Dreamcast is the same Generation as PS2, NGC and XBox.

I like games way better now than before, and I've been playing since the original pong came out. :)

I think a lot of the posters here started playing with the N64, so their perspective of gaming is a little weird to me.

It is not nostlagia, it is just the difference between several experiences...
I think that Snes was the best ever because of what i experienced on it.

I just say that on PS2, GC or Xbox it was different, and for me not better.

But if you think that nostalgia sucks, how you visualize next generation is not really better...
Let's Hope...

The fact that you didnt mention MGS4 as one of your reasons to be optimistic is shameful.
