If it's bytes, you must 1.) have an 8-megabit-per-second connection and 2.) have an express freeway connection directly to Valve.

I wouldn't go that far. Even in kilobytes, that IS a very good download if it's relatively consistent.

The internet and PC aps pretty much solely use bytes, i've rarely seen anything in the past 5 years use bits, last i could remember was shareaza, which you could toggle to bytes but by default the download speed was in bits.
