I can't set up a damn home network no matter how hard I try!

Windows XP network manager or whatever the hell is supposed to make this a point and click affair but no matter how many times any how many ways I've tried to set up a home network, it won't work. My PC downstairs can connect to the internet wirelessly, but I want my PC upstairs to be connected so I can get to files on the harddrive and use the printer. When I run the wizard on the upstairs PC (the one with the router connected) it tells me I can't do it when I get to the last step. Microsoft's site is no help and I can't find a tutorial that doesn't just say "run the wizard." What am I doing wrong?!?!?!

Make sure you are set to work in the same workgroup. Also take off XP's firewall. I'm assuming you are using a router and that is better then XP's firewall any day.

Hope that helps.

Don't use MS network manager. Use whatever client software comes with your wireless cards, and set up your router via its web page.

It is difficult, but once you've got the second device up and working, the next 5 or 6 aren't too bad :)

Trick (well this works ;)): if the computer that conencts to the Wireless Network has XP Home you do not need this. If you have Windows XP PRO or Windows 2000 make sure that the Guest account is turned on.

The next step, besides enabling file and printer sharing, is to share the directory you want to share. Then you have to (if you use WEP encription or WPA encryption) mount your shared folder as a Network drive.

This will cause the shared resource to appear to the other computer: I learned this in Netgear support FAQ... apparently WEP/WPA makes the shared resources invisible. I have seen that mapping a Shared folder as a Network drive caused all my Shared Folders to be visible in my home network.
