I have no friends

who like video games! All my friends think I'm a huge dork for liking video games, so there is no one that I can relate to and talk about video games with!

I just moved to Ames, IA to go to college, and I've gone out with a few people from work and stuff like that, but I've had bad luck my whole life of having friends who like vg's :(

How did you meet your vg nerd buds?

that's the thing, vg ners don't meet other vg nerds. In order for you to have friends and be a gamer, you have to hide the fact that you play video games.

That's the thing, the people who don't think I'm a huge dork don't know I love video games, because usually I do keep it a secret :D

Are you serious? All my friends are gamer nerds, or maybe they're just pretending so they can be friends with me ;)

I feel your pain.

It's strange, but most of the people I hang out dig games (to various extents, of course)
I guess i was just lucky.

Try joining some kinda dork related scifi/anime/D&D club at your college. You're bound to run into some guys or gals who dig gaming there.

i don't really have vg nerd friends because that wasn't the crowd i hung around most of my life. druggies mostly!

I have one very casual game cuber 100 miles away and the rest are thousands of miles away. All of my local friends have grown out of videogames and I am on the virge. Its probably for the best.

That's funny. Most of the druggies I know are also big gamers. When worlds collide! :lol

I don't really have any gamer friends. My friends and I play games when we're at my house, but none of them have any systems themselves or anything. At university I really haven't met that many people that are big into videogames. Only really two off the top of my head have consoles, although quite a few play computer games. WoW, Civilization, Age of Empires, Counterstrike and Starcraft are popular.

I assume that I fall in the thousand miles away group :P

I run with lots of different groups and one of them just happens to like videogames a lot. I just don't like to make plans around playing video games so I don't end up hanging out with them a lot.

same, therse not as many gamers as you think there are really.

Dont you hate it when they call gamers nerds? wtf is up with that, pisses me off

almost everyone I know plays videogames. my gf hates them though :( she often critices me for buying so many games... most of which I ended up not playing so I can understand her point.

My wife plays Nintendogs, The Sims, and stuff like that. However, she's hardly what I would call a gamer. Aside from that, I don't know anyone else that plays video games.

I don't mention I play them either. It's still pretty much considered a geek hobby.

Nearly all of my guy friends are big gamers, and most of the new friends I make happen to be gamers too. Weird how that works.

That's because you're in waterloo. Hell, even the guys on the varsity basketball team play a ton of games. That was the hilarious thing, all my life most of my friends were non-gamers and made fun of me for it. Now I go over to their place, or their friend's place before going out and they're all playing mario kart and NBA Live!

And yes, that's exactly why Xbox Live exists, and why I love it.

Every body plays video games!
I had lots of VG buddies when I was in China six years ago. When I was emigrated to US, my english was pretty horrible, I still could find myself some video game buddies.

I took Japanese for a semester in college, there were plenty of animé and video game nerds in there. They weren't quite the crowd I'd hang out with, but I suppose if I couldn't find anyone to play Mario Kart DS with, I could drop by the Japanese club...

Yeah, I don't have any gamer friends either. Except my BF. It's especially difficult to find other cool girls that like video games like me. :( Maybe that's why most of the people I hang out with usually do tend to be males.

That's kind of odd, since you can freely admit that you're a gamer where I live and still not only make friends, but get chicks too. Not that they dig it, mind you, just that they don't care.

I have 2 friends that likes VG, but they're like a mirror of GAF: If it's not japanese then isn't a game

Most of my friends play videogames, but to different extents. Apart from 2 of my friends the rest dont play games or take as much interst in them as I do.

You know, I've thought of doing that, but then I just say, "F it, and F them if they don't approve". If they come to my house, then they better start cottoning to PGR3, or whatever I'm playing ATM.

I look at gaming/home theater as some of my hobbies. Yeah, it's a bit eccentric, but then I have a buddy who chases trains and takes pictures of them, so it's not like he can say much. :)

Most of them say stuff like they can't believe how much I paid for a 360. One in particular said that and I retorted, "Oh yeah, how much did you pay for that new set of Mizuno blades?" That shut him up.

Anyway, when you get down to it, I've got pretty cool friends. I've got friends who like me in spite of the fact that I don't give a fuck about what they think of my gaming *habit*. :)

So, you have awesome friends?

Growing up I didn't have one VG nerd for a friend. In high school, I knew they where around but I didn't dare associate with them for fear of being labeled. In college, there wasn't a single person who knew about my video game hobby. If any videogame related topic came up in conversation and I was asked about VGs, I only told them about Links golf on my computer. If I'm not asked, I just sit, listen, and play stupid. Now, when I have dates over, I make sure I hide any and all VG related items for fear of her ridicule.

I'm embarrassed to let people know I still play videogames.

Man, if people only new I was a vg message board nerd...

To your question Squall, "How do I find vg nerds?" I would look to see what type of clubs your campus has available. In my past experience, both U of O and PSU had vg related clubs that met a few times a week.

I don't want to take this off squall's topic, but for those with VG friends, do they know you're a message board nerd?

I have a friend...

...wanna share him?

I have a couple of gaming buds. One is a friend of mine since i'm very little and my best gaming buddy is actually some dude i met working on game projects.

I think you need to get involved somehow in the industry to get friends more easily.
And don't be a dork, do something else sometimes.

Ok, I went to college in Ames, IA as well. (Go Cyclones!) and it's an engineering school! Nerds abound there! I met plenty of people who played games, and all of my best friends, who I'm still in touch with today, played game then and still do now. We all played on various PC's and consoles, and we still play together today thanks to the magic of the Internet! :)

You just need to look a little harder. You'll find plenty of video game friends.

Oh yeah, and all that talk about ISU being impossible to meet women at because it's like 3 to one guys to girls. It's bullshit. Like I said, it's an engineering school. They can't relate to women anyway, so that automatically levels the playing field! ;)

Most of my friends play videogames but not really in my genres. Well one of my best friends is really into RPGs and fighters... but my other best friend is into 3D action (Devil May Cry, GTA:SA, and Max Payne being his favorites) and I'm not really a big fan. And most of the people I met up at college were N-bots. I was always under the impression that it's pretty easy to find people at least somewhat into games (hell I've even found girls into them)... that really sucks though if you don't know anybody who enjoys them.

Yeah, pretty much all the white/black/hispanic kids in my Japanese class Freshman year were in there because they loved games/anime... which was cool, it made meeting people much easier.

When I was younger I definitely hid the fact that I was a complete game geek. As i've gotten older though i've gradually stopped trying to hide it. :)

Now everyone who knows me knows that i'm a gaming freak. I was even lucky enough to find a wife who takes me as I am and knows that games are a huge part of my life. :D

I've never really had a lot of friends who were as serious as I am about games. So, i've usually had the friends who played them here and there, but never took it further than that. Thats why i've always found such appeal in places like GAF. It's the one place where nearly everyone is like me, and some are even worse. :lol
