I have an iPhone 13 mini and am really impressed with it it challenges anything samsung or android has on the market the main issue with apple and iPhone is their working conditions overseas and we all know the answer to that.

The only reason I’m upgrading to a 13 mini (from my 12 mini) is to snag one while they’re still around.

I’ll probably keep it for 3-4 years.

Sounds like the Chinese are fucked either way. These poor folks are caught in the middle of this shit. Apple threatening, it seems, to move their manufacturing elsewhere, and the Chinese government crushing down hard on its own people to please Apple so they don't leave. And if they don't work, they don't eat. It's kinda fucked up.

Yeah, the Covid situation is actually getting worse in china. No one knows wtf to do, or what’s going on anymore. This is what happens when contradictory policies go down the chain of command in a communist nation, and no one wants to get blamed for the results. My old boss left and brought her kids to the US, closed all her schools. Here’s a few examples from my chats

Just goes to show you how effective information suppression can be. I had no idea they were still having a COVID crisis over there.

I remember 6~ months ago seeing videos of the government putting barb wire in the fire escapes and stairwells of shared apartment buildings to keep people inside, and other extreme stuff. I thought that the extreme measures would at least get results. Looks that the opposite is actually true.

I knew from the beginning a moderate approach was the way to go. A friend of mine just had steel bars soldered to the main door of his apartment building. Insane

12 Pro, see no need to upgrade any time soon tbh. And I’ve been on the every year hype train in the past.

But more on topic: I don’t see how treating workers as subhuman is at all sustainable, without even talking about the morality of it. You’d think with all the virtue signaling Apple does around other issues, they could be bothered to do something for the people actually making the product that bought that fancy new HQ…

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
Are there electronics that aren't made by slave labor?

Good for them. The world doesn't really need another 50 million phones that are marginally better than the billion phones already out there
Going by how many iPhones Apple sells the public loves that shit in droves. The number of people who annually upgrade (instead of lets say upgrading every 5 years) has got to be millions. In my modestly sized office of maybe 150 people or so, I know a few young people who upgrade annually already. Instead of just doing a phone plan where the phone is sunk into the monthly cost for 3 years, they peel out $1,200 for a new phone. I guess they can always sell their old phone for good money back. But the need for an incrementally better phone is there. Crazy.

Do you really believe a country of 1.3bln people + another 300 million undocumented ones managed by magic to have one of the lowest number of Covid cases in the world?

They lied from the beginning. I'm sure their deaths number in hundreds of thousands, if not millions.

It’s honestly bizarre, each variant is way more contagious but far less virulent as time goes on. It made sense to try to have constraints and heavy restrictions in the past to avoid overloading clinics and hospitals due to mortality rates initially, but these new strains are hilariously weak. Even Korea doesn’t give a shit about COVID, it’s not a threat. Folks wear masks out here but that’s about the extent of it. Everyone goes wherever they want with zero concerns.

Restrictions are futile. The new variants are far too contagious.

I bought an iPhone 13Pro when it came out.
That was a terrible idea.
Since then I got my Pixel 6 and my Pixel 7Pro is waiting for me at home. I still use my Moto and Pixel 3 more than the iPhone.

This is a terrible situation and now I wonder if any of this consumer electronics slave wage thing is worth it any more. This is pretty wild and disgusting. Unfortunately everyone will move on to cheaper and easier pastures, like Africa.
