so im at the gas station filling up, when this old dude in a fairly new looking Camry pulls up. Gas station was fairly busy, but there was a few open slots, so he pulls up to a pump...with his gas tank facing the wrong way (away from the pump). So im thinking, "hmm, he's probably just gonna stop real quick and get something to drink or something", but no, he grabs the nozzel and tries to pull the thing ALL THE WAY ACROSS HIS CAR. Of course it won't reach, so what does he do? Pulls his car up to the next pump and tries it again. I felt bad, but i had to hurry up and finish so i could get in my car and laugh at him. I also bought some mojo potatoes from in there to eat. Mojos bitches. MMMMMmmmmm!

so do you guys have really short hoses then?

Cause over here in the UK, its not uncommon to park up to a pump on the wrong side and pull the hose over your car. Usually they are long enough, only sometimes you have to park pretty close.

Its not that stupid.

Yea I had to do that once, as the gas station nearest me is on a busy road so you can't really wait whilst other people hurry up and get out of their slots (not much room between road and gas station), so sometimes you have to go in on the wrong side. I did it once and I had to pull the thing so very tight that I was afraid it was gonna fall off and spray gas everywhere and kill me, and it nearly happened.

Anyway the funny bit of the story is, I was standing there holding the nozzle in my hole (as you do) and I had to hold it really tight else it would fall out. So it's all going well, but then this car drives past the front of my car really really close and I was watching to see if he would make it, and I must've relaxed my arm for a second because the next thing I know, the nozzle flew out of the hole and spray petrol all over the side of my car and ALL down the front of my jeans.

I was so freaked, but luckily it was dark so I just went in and paid for it (totally stinking of petrol) then promptly left and put my jeans through the wash five times in a row.

most of the places I get gas at (costco, and my school's gas station) have hoses that are long enough to reach to the opposite side. Though, if I have to pull into a gas station I am unfamaliar with I wouldnt try to pull the hose all the way around....

Dude, it's not our fault that we can't remember which side the gas tank is one. We have to spend our time memorizing more important things, like which symbol stands for the men's restroom.

My '81 Caddy has the gas filler hidden under the license plate in the rear. So I can pull up to the pump any way I like! HAHAHAHA.

and place I've been to in PA has the hoses long enough so you can be parked on the wrong side and still pump.

Therefore, by logical deduction, your state = suck.

I know a man, who as a child thought since his blanket kept him warm in the winter, the same blanket was going to keep him cool in the summer.

^^^ that verges on semi-useful.

Here most gas stations have hoses long enough that you can usually park on the wrong side and still make it work safely if you don't mind looking like a total idiot. I hate to stereotype, but you see plenty of middle aged women standing on the wrong side pumping their shit.

If you want dumb, years back I worked with my dad in construction and we were doing this gas station that was being totally renovated. Despite being surrounded by chain link fence, despite the fact the underground tanks were dug up and giant backhoes filled most of the parking lot, despite the fact that the entire asphalt pad was turned up and the roof that goes over the pump island was sitting on it's side next to the demolished and partially rebuilt garage, despite all that at least a dozen people would drive their cars around the construction equipment, over the sand and mud, through the open 'CONSTRUCTION ZONE DO NOT ENTER' gate and pull up to where the gas pumps would be if they weren't stacked up and wrapped in plastic on a trailer next to the island. Then they'd slowly gaze around for someone to pump their gas while a dozen construction workers stared and laughed.

In the UK, you can yank the coord over your car, its encouraged infact when the station is busy...can you not use both sides of the pump in the US?

Yeah here in Aus the hoses are long enough to go to the other side.

I only do that though when I have no choice though, risk of scratching the paint.

some cars also have a little indicator on the dash to show which side the filler is on. Mine has it just to the side of the petrol guage.
