Using ABC and Bit Tornado I am still only getting 1/3 the kb/s that the person uploading from me is getting.....sometimes even nothing. This isn't only on one file....it's pretty much every single file I download. Is there anything to tweak any of these programs or my own system so that I can get better and faster downloads?

If you are using Windows XP, check if the firewall is enabled or not. If it isn't enabled, check your router and open ports 6880-6999(these are ports bittorents used). If you don't have any routers or your modem is connected straight to your computer and you installed a software firewall like BlackICE, check your software firewall and open those ports. If these don't work, who is your ISP? If your ISP is blocking those ports(some ISP monitor for these ports), you can change the bittorrent client ports by going into preference and changing the ports.

well I'm not using the XP firewall....i don't even have one.

My pccillin firewall is on...but isn't blocking those ports.

And finally I'm using my campus T1 line through my apartment. That could definitely be what is screwing up my bandwidth, but I'll be home in 2 weeks and if that's what it is then I guess I'll just have to grin and bare it for 2 more weeks.

Windows XP does have an Internet Connection Firewall. Click on your network, go to Properties, click on Advanced, and you see "Internet Connection Firewall".

You sure pccilin firewall isn't blocking the ports? I had to add in application specific ports to get some P2P services working properly. Have you tried a torrents with a lot of seeds? Like 300+ seeds and 1000+ leechers? What speed did you get?

Doesn't really matter which clients he used since they are all based on the same netcode, each just have different features.

most of my downloads never make it out of 10kb/s
pc-cillin is blocking ports:
31337
18006
1120
1243
6711
6776
27374
3150
2140
7300
31338
31339
21554
11000
7597

That's all I know. I haven't been asked by the firewall whether or not to allow programs access to the internet like other firewalls ask. Any recommendations on other ports to use?
