The Lyric Opera of Chicago has a run of Das Rhinegold in preperation for a complete cylce later this winter. This was the second time I've seen the opera and the first time since watching the Die Walkulre, Siegfried, and Gotterdaemerung. It is definitely better the second time around, mostly due having a better understanding of the leitmotifs used throughout the opera, especially Siegfried's which I could not have identified as his the first time I saw the opera. As far as the performances go, James Morris is the best Wotan I've ever heard. In fact, nobody can come close to his level of excellence in that role. I wasn't a big fan of the woman singing Erda, she made the role of the Goddess old as the earth itself seem rather tame and afraid. Maybe she had an off night. Oh yeah, Fafner by RNC.

Viewing the complete ring cycle is something I plan on doing before I die. Of course I'll probably never get around to actually doing it, but it's good to dream.
