I think one way Microsoft can make a comeback

This absolutely needed to be it's own thread and totally couldn't have been a post in the existing thread(s).

Unpopular opinion though: Gaming was better with exclusives and Xbox should have never started the Play Anywhere initiative.

This is a dumb thread, but also you're not wrong.

Less competition will be worse for all of us.

I ve always said i love exclusives. Not to save MS, i couldnt care less.
But the quality and technology are very usually pushed through exclusives.
I also like the "idea that each company has its representative IPs". But that do i know

I generally agree, but it's impractical and impracticable.

It's just not going to happen very much. Maybe a few titles to test the waters, but they have to have a customer base willing to buy the console first. Sony and Nintendo both have this. The only other way is money-hatting, and the slow boil of a console generation to gain trust - with billions and billions lost on subsidization of hardware, getting reputation back, and real cutthroat tactics.

That's just not who they are anymore. I don't see it.

if they made the next call of duty, elder scrolls, gears, halo and forza great you think they would still flop?

On just Xbox? Yes it's been a long time since a game sold well on Xbox alone.

Kinect Adventure was the last game to do big numbers on Xbox alone .

Cope thread #476.

Just stop doing it to yourselves, it's unhealthy.

(At least it wasn't AI-ridden filth like the previous one minutes earlier).

It's not even cope I have a PS5, PC, and Series X, I like having exclusives to different platforms plus competition is good.

They signed a bunch of agreements promising not to do it for their biggest games and Nadella wants profit from them now, not once they've finally righted the ship. They let Phil shit the bed too long.

Insane take. Sony has done practically nothing this Gen because they don't have to anymore, they've won. Competition pushes the industry forward.

Yeah, but all fingers are pointing to ms not competing with Sony anymore on that playing field. I think MS and news about them should be quiet until they have something to show. Just show their third party games for a while.

Im hoping someone else steps in to keep Sony on their toes. Someone like Apple, or valve in a few more years.

Edit: It's too late now though and knowing how way leads to way I doubt if we should ever come back.

Which shows your plan would not work, because games are not then only issue with Xbox, so... :-(
Not my plan but yes.

In OP's defense.. It's my opinion at least that despite the terrible start with Xbox One Microsoft could have easily turned everything around if it wasn't for the Play Anywhere initiative. While it probably seemed like a good idea at the time from a PR perspective at least it removed any reason for a lot of people to buy a Xbox console during a time when PC gaming was becoming more mainstream (I doubt MS saw this coming personally and though it would be good PR but wouldn't take away from their console business as much as it did).

All their current issues all stem from this. The over reliance and over expansion of Game Pass comes from the fact that they can't rely on console sales nearly as much as they used to because PC doesn't have as much reliable income (XBL, controllers/accessories, etc) but the reliance on Game Pass is the other big killer for the brand IMO because it also comes with stuff like the terrible acquisition of studios.

To speak on the WiiU comment briefly though. It was simply a console without clear marketing released too late (I say too late because the vast majority of games were PS3/360 ports but you could argue too early as well). What WiiU didn't lack though was great games. I find it hilarious when people shit on the WiiU but praise the Switch when a lot of the biggest games on Switch are fucking WiiU titles ported over.
