So I'm having lunch just now and someone rings, they sound Indian and they're talking so fast I can barely understand them, talking about offering me a free phone from the company 3G or something, which was two plans such as different talktimes and prices, £12 a month etc. He tells me to choose between two phones, I play along and pick one to see where it heads.
Then he said, to save time, I'd fill out an online form, but instead he said he'd do it himself through the phone, so he could got my details. He didn't understand what I was saying when I said the name so he said he'd forward me to his supervisor so he could fill out the online form, and I said okay, then the guy just held the phone it was silent (not like it was on hold) and the supervisor (who happens to be magically available?) picks up, and sounds Indian too, then he asks me for my details, I said my name is (fake obviously), Tenteles Kong, and he bought it, just to play along I gave him a fake address too and said I forgot the post code, then he said never mind, which I thought was weird, post code would be absolutely necessary wouldn't it?
Then he said, which bank are you with, and I said Barclays. Then he started asking for my account number, my sort code and everything else. Then I said, "why do you need that? why can't I just put it in myself, or fill up the form on your website? or you could send me some forms through the post, why do you need my bank details, you could be anyone ringing pretending to be someone else and asking for my bank details". Then he said it's a normal process and that they can't charge anything because of the card, and stuff like that. I don't know how that goes but it seems too dodgy to give out bank details just like that.
Then I hung up because I didn't buy it, now they're ringing constantly, I'm contemplating switching off the phone or even phoning the police.
What do you think? Is this a scam?
