I thought about giving this thread a descriptive title

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
But I really only made it for one reason. And that reason is to quote Dave Attell.

You know the one. I don't even need to type it here.

I'm gonna get in hot water for this, but whatever, here it goes:

I'm actually happy for her. Considering her circumstances, she's still fairly attractive and well built. She (and everyone involved) should feel good about it. It should be celebrated, as she was born with a condition she had no control over. Anytime there's more representation for things that people can't control, it can be a great thing.

What should NOT be celebrated though, are controllable/behavioral things. Like obesity. A morbidly obese model fails on both subjective (not attractive) and objective (not healthy) criteria, so don't give me that "this is healthy and beautiful" crap, because it's neither of those things.

End of rant 🤣

100%

“Let’s normalise obesity, these big, curvy girls are beautiful.”

No, let’s not. We definitely shouldn’t point and laugh either, but it’s a huge health problem. You’re quite literally killing with kindness.

My brother in law is autistic, the issue with this (and most promotional material that feature the affected people) is that really it's about which people fall into this category that can most closely pass for 'normal looking'.

It also doesn't portray the reality that those severely afflicted with Down's often experience as well, such as weight gain due to medication etc.

So yeah this is just another company wanting social media credit but stopping short of what they actually say they are doing in my opinion. And that's from years of experience working with lots of community groups, my wife setting up her own business to work with giving these types of people life skill, and from actual family groups that are comprised of people with learning difficulties, Downs, autism and cerebal palsy etc.

From the internet: "The average IQ of a young adult with Down syndrome is 50, equivalent to the mental ability of an eight or nine-year-old child."

I have no interest in seeing people with the mental capacity of a child being sexually exploited for profit. At this point I have little doubt that Victoria's Secret would market to literal children if they could get away with it.

Oh come on man lighten up, she’s not posing provocatively or anything, you’d see the same on a beach or by the pool.

I doubt Victoria’s Secret are going to have her bending over, pouting at the camera, with all due respect to the model I doubt she’d even know how to do that.

Plus, I’m sure she’s got a legal guardian, likely her parents, that are discussing such issues on her behalf.

Just be happy for her, she’s probably having the time of her life right now.

What is the move for? It's exploiting a condition for profit - they want people to have nice fuzzy feelings about VS and buy shit quality $10 panties. Can we call it disability-washing?
