Last night I was one of 10,000 people in Tallahassee who went to see John Edwards speak. The event was extremely loud, and the crowd was full of energy. At the end of the event he started shaking hands of the people of the section I was in. When I got a chance to shake his hand, I was really surprised at how soft it was. This isn’t to say he didn’t have a firm handshake, though. Firm handshake + Soft hands = doubly impressed.

Yeah, you know-- when you're worth $30M+, you tend not to do much yard-work or heavy lifting. ;) :p

Seriously though, what kinda guy notices the texture of another guy's hands when they shake them? Unless... :D

"wow, you're hands are soft!" is usually the first thing I hear whenever someone holds my hands :D

I would never shake his hand...he has already done that with so many other people in the crowd. Yuck, Bacteria ALERT!!

Did you ask how he keeps them so soft?

I didn't get a chance to, sadly.

A woman recently confessed to me that she is very turned off if a man's hands are softer than her's. Whoops, he just lost all his female voting support.

I assume she's talking about mating, not politics. Anyways, it's another example of how shallow people can be.

Further supports my theory that the appeal of John Edwards is in his sex appeal. Women like his voice, like his looks.. have no idea what he stands for though.. but when the word gets out about the soft hands the fantasy will be shattered.

My answer was to your specific anecdote, not to a broad spectrum of people who can have dramatically different tastes (and reasons to vote).

My hands have always been stupidly soft. I have done my share of hard work but the callouses never persist and after a short time the velvet soft skin returns - it is genetic. Only met one girl who was turned off by it but then again her hands felt like industrial sandpaper strong enough to peel paint off of steel. I do have to make sure to shake the bejesus out of a dude's hand when first meeting so he won't notice that my palms feel like smooth boobies.

A firm handshake is good regardless.

I stood in the crowd waiting. Background chatter, flashbulbs, confetti, whistles, and cheers surrounded us as if we were submerged in a sea of excitement. I had been here for two hours and there was a ringing in my ear. It had gradually increased from a whisper to almost a scream equal to my excitement. He was getting near.

John had been making his way through the crowd toward me for about fifteen minutes. Stopping to shake hands and wave to the people who couldn't reach him. Afterwards he turn and look right at me and move a little closer. I could swear that he paused a second each time as our eyes met.

When he was just a few people away my palms were sweaty no matter how many times I wiped them on my jeans. Though doing so help relieve some of the tension. I could hear his voice now.

Finally he was in front of me. His smile was blinding. I felt goose bumps as our hand slowly glided together. His hands were soft and warm. I squeezed gently as the ridges of our thumbs met. I held it for what seemed like hours but really was only an instant. He asked me with a smile "What is your name?"

I also forgot to mention that the secret service guy near our section looked pissed when the girls I was with screamed "John Edwards' is sexy." He was not amused.
