I want to get into (Console) livestreaming.

Hey, I've been trying to get into livstreaming since December 2013 after I bought a Hauppauge HD PVR (Component version, not 2). After learning more about the device I bought component cables for my 360 and just reused ones I had for my PS2 for my PS3. After getting all the proper cables and everything I looked for software, I came across XSplit from a Twitch page advertising it. And that's what I'm using now, but all the paywalls are annoying so I'm trying to find other software, that are good, to stream with. I checked out OBS, but they've been saying they'll add support for the Hauppage HD PVR as far back as 2012 iirc, so I don't think it'll actually happen anymore. So, I can't find any other software to stream with and XSplit is slowly getting more annoying to use. Anybody use anything else/better?

More nuisances are the random, sporadic issues I have with the thing. Sometimes, the PVR will stop sending signal to the TV and PC when I plug it into the computer, otherwise it send signal just fine. Sometimes it decides not to send audio to the TV or the PC (forcing me to just play music in the background, as I can send audio, but again this only happens when I plug it into the PC. It's so confusing because I've gotten good audio in the past, I've messed with the XSplit settings for PVR to fix and still no luck. Even weirder is that googling shows that no one else has stepped forward with these same problems, so it's only me :/. But, I am using a Sony Vaio laptop, (with an i5 processor, 8GBs of RAM, but a measly Intel HD Graphics 3000 integrated graphics) and not some monster desktop PC. Another cause maybe that I'm using a generic printer cable, as the USB cord as I got everything but a USB cable from the box, but I don't think it should make that big of a difference as the original cable would be the same, no?

For the most part it works fine when it wants to cooperate and I get an alright stream, you can see an example from this Friday (aside from my awful Halo skillz, give me a break!) here (skip ahead, it takes a bit to get into an actual match), complete with my no audio issues. I don't have the best internet, so I'm very happy with the quality as it is now (I broadcast with a bitrate of 1100). Lots of settings don't make much sense to me, I've done limited research on things when I've gone through the settings, for example I figured out that deinterlacing (specifically Optimized) fixes the lines that run through the image when movement/motion is happening, a problem I was having at the start of December. This stuff is probably basic knowledge for most people, but coming into all these things is pretty confusing and disorienting for me. All my settings are in a (30 second long lol) gif here, I get a weird error when I try to "read" from my PVR.

Another thing is that this red light is always on, when streaming. It's always off if I'm just using the PVR for passthrough.

Any recommendations for streaming better would be appreciated, most guides I've found have been pretty dated and only cover really old builds of XSplit which are completely different and paywall-less. I'd be happy to answer any questions people have about the problems, and if anyone else has streaming questions you might as well ask here, I suppose.

I don't use the same capture card you have but I do use the elgato if I'm not streaming straight from the PS4. I've been having issues recently with the elgato software that seems to affect the stream when using the live stream feature it comes with. I'm starting to believe its my macbook and I'm now looking into either buying a new mac or building a pc so my streams can be better for the viewers. So any help would be appreciated.

I have the HD-PVR too. I'm going to follow this thread because I am having a hard time getting streaming to work with this thing.

Yeah, I don't understand why it's so frustrating at times. I was hoping for it to be a smooth experience, since so many people stream, but it's been everything but so far.

And you're running the latest version of the software? Maybe give OBS a try, I don't know if it supports ElGato though.

oh boy, the hd pvr... I get major ghosting issues when using the 3-in-1 video cables it came with and finding an original playstation component cable is harder than finding the holy grail.

quick question: why don't you use OBS?

fake edit: so you know about it. yeah, there's no pvr support, I just use screen capture.

I was lucky enough to have a component cable for my PS2 around, other wise yeah I'd be having tons of trouble finding one.

I guess I could use screen capture, but at that point I'd have to be running XSplit and OBS, and I might as well just use XSplit if I have to run it for OBS anyway. I don't think my computer is good enough for all that anyway.

no, I meant screen capturing Arc ShowBiz, the software it came with. don't you have to run that when streaming with xSplit? I remember I had to.

xSplit is definitely more convenient with the options and as long as there's no support for pvr on OBS it'll have a slight edge over it, but only if you pay the stupid fee.

I'm using a laptop to stream games. I use my tv as a second screen, where I capture the game and all that jazz and use the laptop's screen to look at the chat. it took me quite a while to get a somewhat comfortable setup.

I didn't get a CD for Arc ShowBiz with mine either....

You can get a direct feed from the PVR in XSplit, without screen capture. I just use my laptop's one screen for chatting and everything else. I sometimes even throw a screen region over my game stream, so I have my screen over the game for chat to see.

whoa, you didn't get the software? did you buy it used or something? well, in that case until OBS gets the support stick with xSplit. and yeah, if you use direct feed, you don't have to worry about chat window being in the way. v_v

I bought it open box, but new. I assume that's why the USB cord and software were missing. For $20, so I couldn't really complain.

I can't wait until OBS gets Hauppauge support though, it looks really good :/

oh yeah, considering your sound/video issues: I can't tell if that really fixes those, but it works better if I only turn on the tv when I'm in the game. when trying to play the european version of Demon's Souls my screen was just black. once I turned on the tv when I was already in the game, it kinda worked. no clue why.

I'll definitely give it a try the next time I'm streaming, I was always confused on what order to do things. But I usually do it this way: Turn PVR on and connect to PC->Turn Xbox On->Turn TV on
