I would kill for Quake DS, Duke Nuken 3DS, and Command and Conquer DS

I don't think the Quake fanbase really screws around with handhelds much, I see more people begging for console stuff like Goldeneye/PD etc to be ported. Besides, they'd have to be dumbed down to fit the # of accessible buttons during use of the stylus.

I wouldn't even pay for any of those, let alone kill. I guess I'm not seeing the allure of first person shooters with hideous graphics on a tiny screen and mediocre controls. Especially after playing Metroid Prime: Hunters, which is quite possibly the worst game I've ever played in my life.

I've yet to play the demo, its that bad han?

They actually control pretty well. Using the stylus as a mouse-look and either the d-pad or face buttons for WSAD movement. Then the trigger buttons for firing.

I want to know why people think that C&C/Starcraft/AoE would be playable on such a tiny screen. Unless the game was heavily simplified, the simple-on-PC act of drawing a select box would be nigh-impossible on the DS screen, simply due to the lack of sharpness in the stylus and screen. Plus your hand would be in the way, you'd be hitting a button to swap screens to get to the build menu, scrolling wouldn't be as easy, etc.

I can see how a large, quality touchscreen would be good for a RTS, just as how I can see a large, well placed touchpad being good for a FPS (read: on the side to reduce thumbstrain,, not the center), but the DS' touchscreen is not up to task.

We both know you're lying and that's a horrible exaggeration.

Especially since you're talking about a demo of game that was over a year away from being completed.

It controlled fine once you picked the one you liked the best and got used to it, it looks great now (FOR DS), and has great potential.

Why are the games and genres that seem best suited for the DS not even being considered for a release?
Best suited? Best suited? Aren't these games already on the system they are "best suited" for. ;)

C&C might be a cool idea (as would many other RTS's) but I don't see any significant advantages to having an FPS on the DS.

I've been thinking that Blizzard could make some money porting some of their old games ot the DS. WarCraft and StarCraft are both very well suited for the DS, and I personally would be interested in a Diablo DS, but that might just be me.

If you put Command and Conquer on the DS, then I will be happy and furious at the same time.

How the hell would I split time between C&C and Advance Wars DS? :(

Theres always the map on the bottom screen for quick reference.

Plus its just the fact that the DS can replicate keyboard-mouse controls better than the other consoles/handhelds can (Touch screen weapon swapping, for example)

I want EA to port their Bullfrog developed 60fps PS2 port of Quake III to the PSP and add online play. :D
It's being worked on by homebrew authors, though it'll come out a bit later than the Xbox port :(

The team doing the Xbox port were asked to assist the PSP port when they're done, I think

:lol I'm lying? About what? Not liking it? I stand by everything I said, it really is one of the worst games I've ever played, it was such an unstimulating experience that I couldn't even be bothered to finish the demo.
And I love that "(FOR DS)" remark. This is 2005, we're entering a new generation, subpar 3D looks like shit no matter which way you slice it. DS developers really need to stick to 2D, which looks fantastic on the DS.

Uh, you all do know that C&C has been announced for both the DS and the PSP, right?
Excuse me? I would like to see that pr announcement if you wouldn't mind

EA is probably toying with the idea I would guess.

DS is very capable of a 3-D RTS. Certainly an RTS with a 3-D field map would be welcome. In fact, I'd like the next Advanace wars to allow for terran height and zooming of the map.

I dont think that the DS could even pull off a decent port of Duke Nukem 3D, to tell you the truth, Lemur, same thing with Quake.

And for C&C, other people already mentionned it, the DS's screen size is too small, even if the resolution is right. I realised this the other day when I was thinking about how cool a Syndicate/Syndicate Wars port would be for the DS.

The DS could easily do Duke 3D without breaking a sweat (or any BUILD engine game). It could also easily do Quake. It'd have a less than perfect Quake II port, and Quake III is simply out of the question.

Quake 3 has been tested for MBX Lite, a small cell phone chip, and runs at full speed and can even use FSAA.

I'd like to get around to playing Duke 3D again. All I can remember about the game is that I just constantly played it was GOD mode on :D

Playing 1-1 over a 56k modem was quite fun too. First online experience.

This was a constant conversation we'd have in the game:

"Hey, why don't you open the cash register?"
"Nah."
"C'mooon, I'm not hiding in the secret compartment, I swear!"

it would then become a game of trying to open the cash register, and running away as fast as you can before you got show withh the BFG :lol :lol

That isn't the DS though. Far from it. The DS doesn't even have texture filtering. It's raw poly output is less than that of the N64 (which was about half that of the PSX). It could do Quake I, and a very very altered port of Quake II, but Quake III would be out of the question. Duke 3D would be super easy for it to do though.

Right, the MBX reference was just context for the current state of mobile graphics. That DS/N64/PS performance comparison seems off, though. The N64 could be a lot faster than its games showed but was hampered by its programming access, and the DS is comparatively fast at transforming geometry.

And yet people still spooge when FFVII is mentioned.

Although I do agree with you for the most part concerining the FPS genre on the DS I think you're a little over the top in your comments on Metroid. Worst game you ever played? Come on...You must not play too many games and simply limit yourself to absolute rock-solid AAA titles.

That's a rediculous claim. While you're entitled to dislike Hunters, you can't deny that it does have very fluid controls and very impressive visuals.
